I have been following NYC politics for years, and I'm not quite sure I've ever seen what's going on with Mayor Eric Adams. It feels like a coordinated attack on a guy trying to get things done for our city.
Take this whole Timothy Pearson situation.
The guy's messed up some things for sure, but who hasn't? The way he's been forced out smells fishy to me. Almost like the powers that be are trying to isolate Adams by picking off his key advisors one by one.
I remember when Adams first took over, coming in with big plans and that no-nonsense attitude that just had me convinced he was exactly what this city needed. But boy, it sure seems like he has been fighting uphill from day one. No sooner does he try moving in one direction than there's another investigation or scandal popping up.
This recent wave of corruption investigations has the feel of a staged production. FBI raids, cell phones seized, charges of bribery, it's so hugely dramatic. Too dramatic, if you ask me. Someone is trying to create one huge smoke screen so that the people of New York do not focus on the problems that face us.
I wonder just who is behind these investigations.
Political rivals, disgruntled bureaucrats, or the shadowy figures who didn't like Adams shaking things up?
Don't get me wrong, I'm all for rooting out corruption. But this feels much less like justice and more like a witch hunt. Adams may not be perfect, but he's a fighter. I've seen him in action at community meetings, really listening to people's concerns.
That's not the behavior of some corrupt politician.
This whole thing is a mess; it's the ordinary New Yorkers who will suffer because of it. With everyone tangled in these investigations, who's looking after our schools, our streets, our businesses?
I'm not sure how this is all going to shake out, but it would be nice if people remembered there are always two sides to every story. Maybe now is a good time to start asking ourselves who benefits from bringing down a mayor just trying to do his job.
