Chess and Whine Wine. Not cheese and Not "whine", but depending on the number of glasses there might be some whining towards the end when "check" or "checkmate" starts to be said. Haha, just kidding.
Chess Board Game is my entry to The First Toys on Hive #Christmastoys Contest.
We bought an inexpensive chess board game set for my daughter, Anais, for Christmas which was borne from a trip to the nearest department store. She was thrilled to receive it on Christmas Day and asked us to teach her the rules right away.
Her Dad, @iamyohann taught her the rules, and they played a few games together. A few days later, when @ybanezkim26 came for a visit, he and Yohann had a serious chess game together. I don't know who won but I heard each won a round.
Board Games During Lockdown
In light of the lockdown in April, we spent a lot of time indoors and had plenty of opportunities to play games with our 6-year-old daughter. The games we had back then were UNO Cards and a french game called Le Cochon Qui Rit translated as The Laughing Pig which is a dice game with pieces of plastic pig parts to be put together.
The Queen's Gambit Influence
During the quarantine, we also binged on Netflix. My daughter watched The Queen's Gambit miniseries with us just recently, minus the violence and disturbing scenes of course, and through this, she became aware of the chess game.
For those who haven't seen it yet, it's a fictional period drama about an orphaned chess prodigy named Beth Harmon. She struggles with addiction towards her journey to becoming the best chess player in the world. To those who've seen it, did you enjoy it?
Playing a Chess Game Together for the First Time
Yohann and I have been married for almost 15 years but tonight was our first time playing chess. What better way to play it over a glass of wine. I learned chess by watching my uncles play. They taught me the rules when I was around 7.
I was certain that it would be a challenging game because Yohann is a strategic thinker. I almost got him at certain times but I was either slow or too cautious and at times reckless that I lost.
I didn't mind losing. It was the thrill and intensity of playing that was fun with lots of laughter between sips of wine. As a spectator, Anais cheered.
As you've read, the Chessboard was intended for our 6 years old daughter but we both ended up enjoying it more.
What about you?
Do you like Chess?
