Hi fellow Hiveians,
Today I wanted to share a few photos from the most recent blueberry picking session I had!

It's Blueberry Time!
Blueberry picking season.. one of my favorites!
Blueberry season is for sure one of my highlights of the summer. I enjoy and appreciate fresh strawberries.. but honestly I find it really annoying to have to crouch down and grab the damn things lol. Is that an old man type of thing to say..? Well tough shit :D
Picking blueberries is for sure a lot easier and more enjoyable. You can stand up and lean over into the bushes. A lot of the time, I end up just sitting down on the ground and harvesting them from that position! A lot of the time, especially on this trip, it ends up being the far better method. The old people ain't sitting on the ground like that, I can tell you right now hahaha.
Their loss though.. I got some really phenomenal berries that way! Some of these bunches were taken from that perspective, but honestly the blueberry bushes were all full to the brim. There are hundreds of the trees in this one field, and each bush had a few thousand berries on them. I for sure think there were over a million blueberries in this field, and there are dozens of farms like this across the one region we live in alone! Pretty wild!
Blueberry season is a great one in that I get to spend some money, get out in the beautiful and fresh sunshine and pick some of the healthiest fruits we can eat. These things are jam packed with goodness!
One of the things I read a year or two ago about them intrigued me. I bet I could find it again but essentially, blueberries that are out in the field like this have natural enzymes and things on the skin to protect them from bugs and other pests that it doesn't want to eat them. For us humans, this ends up being some really good digestive enzymes and probiotics! Lots of goodness when you can get out there and pick the things yourselves, that's for sure!
The little man has been obsessed with blueberries since soon after he was able to eat solid foods. We gave him some blueberries and he chowed the things down, starting his lifelong love for the small superfruits.
Because of this feverish desire for blueberries, we are constantly buying them at the store and that is not an ideal thing, since the berries aren't fresh, got picked in god only knows what country, and they aren't as tasty as the ones that we can get right here in our back yard. Of course, if we can get them off season it's still a good thing to grab them anyway, but we try to plan ahead with this and harvest the heck out of them now.
With the yearly, summer season harvest, we try to pack as many pounds of blueberries as we can into the freezer! Often at the end of the summer, we have at least 20 or 30 pounds of blueberries in there for the little man to snack on. Some weeks, he eats a little baggie of blueberries a night! It's hilarious, and awesome at the same time. We try to stack him up as much as we can with healthy things, which has led him to grow like a freaking weed, the dude is doing great haha.
So I think that you hopefully understand why I end up looking forward to blueberry season every year.. it's one of the best!
