Today, I want to present the page from the third day of live drawing in my sketchbook.
Jody and I were at our house in the mountains. The truth is that being there allows me to disconnect from the stress of the city, from the feeling of always having something to do, and from the anxiety that comes with being pressed for time. I am convinced that, far from the city, time flows differently.
When we arrived at the house, the first thing we noticed was that the orchids had bloomed. We had been waiting for this moment for weeks, so I decided to celebrate it by drawing them in my sketchbook.
I woke up early in the morning and waited for the sunlight to give me some direct light, although I must admit there was a moment when the sun was too intense.
First, I drew a rough sketch with pencil. Then, I traced an outline with my thicker pen. Next, I outlined the internal shapes with thinner lines.
I added texture with a finer marker, 0.5 mm.
Finally, I used Google Lens to find out what species of orchid it was. I discovered that they are called Cymbidium, which means "boat." However, there are about 70 different varieties of Cymbidium. This one is yellow, but I couldn’t find its specific name. I think I need to practice a bit more on how to search for botanical species.
I have enjoyed every moment of this drawing process, and I hope you also enjoy looking at my sketchbook.
Thank you very much for reading!
