Hey everyone!
Today I'm going to share a sketch of my favourite TV series, Band of Brothers. Released in 2001 this HBO's miniseries still has a 9.4 IMDb rating. Which this well deserves. I watched it in 2021 when I wasn't even interested in war series or wars as a whole but the way this series depicted the war, mindset of different soldiers and the bonding which can only exist in combat, my love and respect for everyone who has fought in war grew immensely.
So to pay respect to the soldiers I started this sketch.
This is the basic outline. At this point, I wasn't sure if I could make it as this was the hardest and most complicated reference picture I ever took.outline part took me 30 minutes freehand. I started shading from the top left corner.
This guy on the left boosted my confidence so much that I went outside and treated myself with an ice cream 😋. and for the next few days I would always think about finishing this. I had to attend online classes and I like to draw only from the natural light coming from my window so usually, I got around 2hrs to draw every day.
Some layering.
I wasn't using a tombow eraser(a powerful eraser which looks like a pen, used for fine details) for the pattern on the caps. I had to leave those white areas in the caps. which doesn't look that hard but it was time taking.
Didn't get Guarnere right, he was my 2nd favourite character 😔.
The fabrics on their caps don't look like they have texture due to my low-quality mobile camera but i have shaded those with a 10B pencil after rubbing it tip on sandpaper for rough texture effect.
Finally time to draw my favourite character captain winters 😍.
size 18*13 cm
Final result, I was overjoyed after completing this. I'v gained so much confidence from this sketch that now i don"t fear any reference picture.
I also got interested in world war 2 after this. watched all the major movies on it like The pianist, Dunkirk, saving private Ryan, enemies at the gate, the reader etc. read many heroic and interesting stories on it. Band of Brothers is special for me and so is this drawing.
