A few days ago I posted about an eclectic 3d sculpture where I combined the form of a shell & the trunk of a tree. It was interestingly absurd which garnered me great feedback from the arts community as well. I guess that’s one of the mysterious aspects of art, everyone has a different take on what’s good & what’s not. For whatever reason, a piece of art could never go wrong. It will always depend on the way it was interpreted by the observer.
For today, I have re-created the 3d shell and made a visual that will showcase a way to construct it in a more realistic approach. Since the size of the sculpture is the toughest challenge I’m suggesting to utilize small pieces that will serve as the building blocks of the whole form of the sculpture.
The idea was inspired at how Lego pieces can be assembled together to form a complex form. The only difference is the shape of the pieces which are Icosahedron joints & threaded tubes.

Upon further research, I found that there is an architectural term for this type of construction, it’s called Space Frame construction. It’s basically what I describe in the first part of the post: the use of two basic pieces that are joined to form triangles that constitute the overall form of a structure. Here’s an example of a space frame structure.
As I progress in my Park marker design project, I’m collecting bits and pieces of important technical information that are helpful for me to realize the possibility of making an actual piece of it. It’s a great pleasure for me to keep working on it and share my important notes to the community.
