Hello everyone!
I recently completed this charcoal drawing, and I wanted to share both the final piece and the process behind it. Creating this artwork was a journey that started with a simple sketch and evolved into a detailed and realistic portrait.
The Process
- Initial Sketch:
Every great drawing starts with a solid foundation. I began by lightly sketching the figure with a fine charcoal pencil, focusing on proportions and structure. At this stage, I made sure to get the posture, angles, and facial alignment right before moving on to details.
- Defining Features:
Once the basic outline was in place, I refined the facial features, ensuring expression and symmetry were accurate. The hands and arms were also carefully outlined to maintain natural proportions.
- Shading & Textures:
This is where the artwork truly started coming to life. Using soft charcoal and blending techniques, I built depth, carefully placing highlights and shadows to create realism. Special attention was given to the textures of the skin, clothing, and hair to enhance the overall depth.
- Final Refinements:
The last stage involved enhancing contrast and refining small details, like the watch, earrings, and fabric patterns. I kept the background minimal to keep the focus on the subject, making the figure stand out even more.
Medium: charcoal dust and general charcoal pencils
