Art Makes Me Grow
Reflective Self-Portrait
Hello everyone! Happy Monday, I hope you are well. Today I publish in my blog, something that I used to publish a lot before and that I had time without publishing, a drawing made by me and also of me hahahaha.
In college they asked me for a visual resource that represented how art affects my life, it could be a collage, a composition, a sculpture and they didn't limit the size either. I decided to make a self-portrait with wood colors and markers.
Hola a todoos! Feliz lunes, espero se encuentren bien. Hoy publico en mi blog, algo que solía publicar muchísimo antes y que tenía tiempo sin publicar, un dibujo hecho por mi y además de mi jajajaja.
En la universidad me pidieron un recurso visual que representara como el arte afecta a mi vida, podía ser un collage, una composición, una escultura y tampoco nos limitaron el tamaño. Yo decidí hacer un auto-retrato con colores de madera y marcadores.
What does art mean to me or how does it affect my life? I am an artist, I have been drawing since I was a child and I love to do it, but I am also a voice artist, that is to say, I am a singer. Art for me serves as a way of expression, I draw, sing and dance according to how I feel and so I can vent the feelings I have, but beyond that, art makes me grow, I am empowered when I'm on stage and I can only think about how great I am, with my drawings I have come far and I feel great when only with a pencil and a sheet I can convey something through a drawing.
I wanted to reflect this in my drawing in the following way: I drew myself in profile looking a little upwards on the left side of the sheet, next to it I made a ladder with an arrow pointing upwards and on each step something allusive to the art that I do and all this accompanied by the phrase written in large "Art Makes Me Grow".
¿Qué significa el arte para mi o como afecta a mi vida? Yo soy artista, desde pequeño dibujo y amo hacerlo pero también soy artista de la voz, es decir soy cantante. El arte para mi sirve como una manera de expresión, dibujo, canto y bailo según como me siente y así puedo desahogar los sentimientos que tengo, pero más allá de hecho, el arte me hace crecer, me empodero cuando estoy en el escenario y solo puedo pensar en lo grande que soy, con mis dibujos he llegado lejos y me siento grande cuando solo con un lápiz y una hoja puedo transmitir algo a través de un dibujo.
Esto lo quise reflejar en mi dibujo de la siguiente manera: Me dibujé de perfil mirando un poco hacía arriba en la parte izquierda de la hoja, al lado hice una escalera con una flecha que señala hacia arriba y en cada escalón algo alusivo al arte que yo hago y todo esto acompañado de la frase escrito en grande "El Arte Me hace Crecer"
STEP BY STEP✨
I started by making a sketch placing the elements I had in mind to see how it all looked together and I liked the composition, but then in the drawing as such I modified some things. After that, I took a lot of profile pictures to have a clear reference and to make the self-portrait look as much like me as possible.
Empecé haciendo un boceto ubicando los elementos que tenía en mente para ver que tal se veía todo junto y me gustó la composición, pero luego en el dibujo como tal modifiqué algunas cosas. Luego de eso, me tiré un montón de fotos de perfil para tener una referencia clara y que el auto-retrato se pareciera lo más posible a mi.

Then, I dedicated myself to choose the photo that I would use as reference, I took a lot of them so it was a little difficult to choose. When I had made my choice I started to work, I began to draw as I usually do with my hb pencil. I was very attentive to the details, because when it comes to making a portrait, a detail can completely change a face, so I was very attentive.
Luego, me dediqué a escoger la foto que usaría de referencia, tomé un montón así que fue un poco difícil escoger. Cuando ya había escogido me puse manos a la obra, empecé a dibujar como normalmente lo hago con mi lápiz hb. Estaba muy pendiente en los detalles, ya que a la hora de hacer un retrato, un detalle puede cambiar completamente un rostro, por lo cual estaba bastante atento.

Then I started coloring my skin, my skin has warm tones, I started with a yellow base color, and little by little I increased more colors, among them ocher, light brown, dark brown, orange, red and salmon pink. With the skin was what took me the longest, it is what has more details, since I colored the hair with dark brown and black and I didn't make many details or shines and the shirt was made with black marker.
Luego empecé a colorear, lo que es mi piel, mi piel es de tonos cálidos, empecé con una base de color amarillo, y poco a poco fui incrementando más colores, entre ellos el color ocre, café claro, café oscuro, naranja, rojo y rosado salmón. Con la piel fue con lo que más tardé, es lo que lleva más detalles, ya que el cabello lo coloreé con marrón oscuro y negro y no hice muchos detalles ni brillos y la camisa la hice con marcador negro.

Then I did the lettering and that's where I think I went wrong, because the letters of the word "grow" have a lot more visual weight than the other words because the typography is so dark and thick, while the words "makes me" get lost as you move away. And then I finished the details of making the details that represent singing and drawing which are the arts that represent me the most.
And after giving the final details with blue highlighter this is how the drawing looked like:
Después hice las letras y es en lo que creo que me equivoqué, pues, las letras de la palabra "crecer" tienen muchísimo más peso visual que las otras palabras por la tipografía tan oscura y gruesa, mientras que las palabras "me hace" se pierden bastante mientras uno se aleja. Y luego terminé los detalles de hacer los detalles que representan el canto y el dibujo que son las artes que más me representan.
Y luego de dar los detalles finales con resaltador azul así fue como quedó el dibujo:

I am really very happy with the final result, I loved the way it turned out and I think that I do look a lot like me, you tell me what you think. I really enjoyed the process of creation and I tell you that I got the highest grade in college, the teacher loved it and told me that without me having said anything she had understood what I meant with the drawing, which was the reason for the assignment. Estoy realmente muy conforme con el resultado final, amé como quedé y yo considero que si me parezco bastante, ustedes díganme ustedes que opinan. Disfruté mucho el proceso de creación y les comento que saqué la nota máxima en la universidad, a la profesora le encantó y me dijo que sin yo haberle dicho nada ella había entendido lo que quise decir con el dibujo, lo cual era el motivo de la tarea.
