Black and White Drawing for Ms. Leticia Lettieri
Hello my friends, I had a few weeks without sharing with you a drawing made by me here, but today I am very happy to show you the drawing I made last week for my friend Leticia.
It is a 3/4 portrait in black and white, I made it with a lot of love and I hope you will stay to read and see the step by step.
Hola mis amigos, tenía algunas semana sin compartirles un dibujo hecho por mi por aquí, pero hoy estoy muy feliz de poder mostrarles el dibujo que hice la semana pasada para mi amiga Leticia.
Se trata de un retrato 3/4 y en blanco y negro, lo hice con mucho amor y espero que se queden a leer y ver el paso a paso.
The first thing I do when I have to draw a loved one is to look at their social networks, I look for several photos, choose the ones I like the most and I discard one by one until I find the ideal photo.
This time I had several photos in mind, but I only had to choose one. I have two basic criteria to be able to choose the ideal photo, first that I like the photo and second that it is not so complicated to draw.
The photos that I liked the most of Leticia are in black and white and the truth is that I hadn't been drawing for a long time so I wasn't sure. My sister gave me the idea of basing my drawing on the black and white photo and I decided the colors I was going to use later, but I thought it was too improvised and I felt it could look bad, so I decided to make a black and white drawing after such a long time.
Lo primero que hago cuando tengo que dibujar a algún ser querido es fijarme en sus redes sociales, busco varias fotos, escojo las que más me gusten y voy descartando una por una hasta encontrar la foto ideal.
En esta ocasión tenía varias fotos en mente, pero solo tenía que escoger una. Tengo dos criterios básicos para poder escoger la foto ideal, primero que me guste la foto y segundo que no sea tan complicada de dibujar.
Las fotos que más me gustaron de Leticia están en blanco y negro y la verdad es que tenía tiempísimo sin dibujar por eso no estaba seguro. Mi hermana me dio la idea de basarme en la foto en blanco y negro y yo decidir los colores que iba a poner luego, pero me pareció que era muy improvisado y sentí que se podía ver mal por eso mejor me decidí en hacer un dibujo a blanco y negro luego de tanto tiempo.

STEP BY STEP✨
After I chose the photo I just had to start, I took my hb or #2 pencil and started the sketch, I had several complications because I'm not used to do portraits in 3/4, some proportions looked strange, but after trying a lot I managed to make it look nice and it also looked a lot like my friend Leticia.
Luego de que escogí la foto solo me quedaba empezar, tomé mi lápiz hb o #2 y empecé el boceto, tuve varias complicaciones porque no acostumbro a hacer retratos en 3/4 algunas proporciones se veían extrañas, pero luego de intentar bastante logré que me quedara bonito y que además se pareciera bastante a mi amiga Leticia.

Afterwards I started to shade with the same pencil, something that I didn't like so much, is that since I don't draw with this technique I don't have the necessary pencils to make the drawing look better. That is to say, there are some details for which I had to use a pencil with more pigmentation like a b6 or b8, but since I don't have them I did everything with the same pencil, which was fine, but it could have been better.
Después empecé a sombrear con el mismo lápiz, algo que no me gustó tanto, es que como yo no dibujo con esta técnica yo no tengo los lápices necesarios para que el dibujo quede mejor. Es decir, hay algunos detalles para los cuales tenía que usar un lápiz con mayor pigmentación como un b6 o b8, pero como no los tengo lo hice todo con el mismo lápiz, que quedó bien, pero pudo quedar mejor.

After giving the shadows to the face I started to shade the hair, and this is where you can see what I just told you about the pencils. As you can see in the photo I used as a reference Leticia's hair looks very dark, something I couldn't achieve because I only have a pencil that doesn't have the necessary pigmentation to make it very dark, for that I could have used a darker pencil like a b6 or b8.
Luego de darle las sombras a la cara empecé a sombrear el cabello, y es aquí es donde se nota más lo que les acabo de decir de los lápices. Como pueden observar en la foto que usé de referencia a Leticia se le ve el cabello muy oscuro, algo que no pude lograr porque solo tengo un lápiz que no tiene la pigmentación necesaria para que quede bien oscurito, para eso hubiera podido usar un lápiz más oscuro como un b6 o b8.

After finishing the hair the drawing was practically finished, but I saw it as simple, I wanted to do something more and I didn't know what. I started to analyze the photo and I realized that it has a very vintage vibe and I wanted to do something to the drawing to give it even more of that vibe.
I pulled out my watercolors from the depths of oblivion, dusted them off and realized that with an ochre color it would look great and I also wanted to include my signature and her name on a separate piece of paper that looked like something out of a newspaper.
Luego de haber terminado el cabello el dibujo ya estaba prácticamente terminado, pero yo lo veía simple, quería hacerle algo más y no sabía que. Me puse a analizar la foto y me di cuenta que tiene una vibra muy vintage y quise hacerle algo al dibujo para que diera aún más esa vibra.
Saqué mis acuarelas de lo más profundo del olvido, les sacudí el polvo y me di cuenta que con un color ocre se iba a ver genial y además quise también incluir mi firma y el nombre de ella en unos papeles aparte y que se vieran como sacado de periódico.
I honestly feel that those little details that I came up with improved the drawing, at first I wanted to give it the ocher or brown color with a little liquid coffee, but my mom told me that it smells bad and so I decided to do it with watercolor and this was the result.
Sinceramente siento que esos pequeños detalles que se me ocurrieron mejoraron el dibujo, al principio quería darle el color ocre o marrón con un poco de café líquido, pero mi mamá me dijo que eso agarra mal olor y por eso decidí hacerlo con acuarela y este fue el resultado.

When I started to draw I did it only in black and white, because in the first course where I was they taught me that technique that I have always loved, but for a while now I had not practiced more, however I must say that I enjoyed drawing with graphite and I loved the final result.
Leticia was very happy to see that I made her a drawing, she was very excited and that made me feel very happy and fulfilled.

Cuando yo empecé a dibujar lo hacía solo en blanco y negro, ya que en el primer curso donde estaba me enseñaban esa técnica que desde siempre me ha encantado, pero de un tiempo para acá no había practicado más, sin embargo debo decir que disfruté bastante volviendo a dibujar con grafito y además el resultado final me encantó.
Leticia se puso muy contenta al ver que le hice un dibujo, ella se emocionó mucho y eso me hizo sentir bastante feliz y realizado.
