And welcome back to emanate artworx! Today I'd like to share with you a portrait I made to test out IbisPaint's crayon-like effect using the gouache (mix 2) brush.
I saw the "Crayon Art (Analog Like)" tutorial on the Ibis YouTube channel, and it looked so cute, so I really wanted to see what I could do with this newly discovered technique.
As many of you already know, I have a passion for making art with traditional materials and with digital techniques. When I was a kid growing up in the 90s, I used all the regular supplies (pencil, paper, colored pencil, markers, acrylic paint, and so on), but it wasn't until a year or two ago that I began using software to make art.
I really can't choose which one I like better 😆
That being said, it's no surprise I recently made an artistic detour back to crayon world in my 2 Doors post.
So far, for digital art, IbisPaint is the app I have used the most because it's super portable and versatile. There are probably hundreds of different brushes and lots of effects and features. I use Ibis on my phone - I can take it anywhere and no cleanup is required, yay!
Now for this "digital crayon" portrait. If we're being honest, it's more of a study, considering she doesn't even have both eyebrows. There are sooo many ways to render. As someone who is not very well seasoned yet in the digital arts, coloring and rendering have been my greatest challenges ğŸ˜. That's why every portrait is a little different from the last because I am still figuring it all out. 💖
Exploring.
On my last portrait post, Miss Anon, there was a lot of surprisingly positive feedback from you guys, encouragement to continue in that direction. Less shiny, perfect, happy - more mysterious, dimensional ...surly. Noir 🌚. Almost totally against my personality-haha!
🫠Storytelling is a skill I'm still working on improving -- please stand by. In the meantime, enjoy these close-ups.
