Hi Everyone!
Welcome back to emanate artworx, hope you're doing great going into a new week. This time I want to share my most recent portrait with you, well, portrait study I should say.

*Before we actually begin, I want to express my >:c frustration with the ecency apps auto-scheduler. See, I made this post last week and had it all ready to go (scheduled), but it never posted on the day/time I had it scheduled for. Total disappointment 😞. So I waited. Waited...4 days past the schedule date and I don't see the post. It's like it got lost in space or something.
I don't know how to find out its status. So if this turns out to be a double-post, it was not on purpose! Please don't mute me 😎*
Inspiration
This study served a dual purpose. First I wanted to try out a couple of techniques that are new to me, to see how I liked them. And second to explore the theme of courage or bravery, when seen as a facial expression.
The facial expression part was not that easy! I don't quite think I nailed it because to me she looks content or neutral, rather than courageous. Maybe she's actually stoic 🤔 lol. I don't know for sure, but I'll still keep Esther in the collection of studies.
Reflecting
After watching some very helpful (exciting) tips from YouTubers Upsana_S_ and PROCrEATE I learned a few different techniques that I used on this study piece. Applying the new methods did take a little longer, so when I got to 4 hours, I had to call 'er good, no eyelashes A-OK.
...Why exciting? Because I'm always looking for ways to speed up my process and simplify my execution while still making art that looks 😆 decent. And I'll take all the help I can get!
By the way, I have continued to complete my (🤞daily) sketch drill and it has seriously helped me speed up my line art phase...which I am actually considering abandoning for the sake of time; just sketch and go.
Anyway, the plan is to eventually turn some of these study portraits into full-fledged, polished works. Something really nice 🥲 for you to see and enjoy. I know as long as I keep making art and striving towards a better product I'll keep improving. So don't stray too far now...🧲
