Hi everybody,
Welcome back to emanate artworx! It's time for another Sketchtember on Hive visit. This week's prompts are:
☆Sweater
☆Picture
☆Redesign a Character
For week 1, I chose "Redraw a drawing from last year." Since I really like landscapes, I re-made a September 2022 landscape. And for week 3, I'm choosing "picture." Another landscape!
This one has a little roundabout back-story to go with it. See, at the beginning of August, I started making this other landscape painting. It was looking so promising, so amaze. The clouds, the colors, the vibes 🥹.
But something happened a couple of weeks in. I started becoming dissatisfied with this canvas. Every time I would see it on the easel, it would mock me. It had formed a life of its own and really got into my head. So I started "making adjustments" to what I'd already done, a big mistake!
Long story short, I ended up destroying my creation.
Not my best moment. But I'm keeping the sliced up canvas as a lesson and a reminder to focus on my vision and work through the difficulties 'til the end.
The silver lining, and the point of this post, is this new picture that came up from the ashes of the cut-up painting. As soon as I put down the blade, I had a strong urge to create a new scene. Weird!
But I went with it, and this is the end result. A much more satisfying ending. And I finished it right in time for Week 3 of #Sketchtember.
This is watercolor and crayon on mixed media paper. The reference is of an image I saw on mapcrunch.com, taken in Queensland, Australia. I'm not sure exactly how long it took, but it was about 2-1/2 hours altogether, split into multiple sessions.
Reference for the destroyed painting was from unsplash, taken at a national park in Texas.
So, yeah,
Don't give up, even when you recognize your mistakes and things seem hopeless. Life will always have its challenges, how we face them is what's important.
Thank you ArtPark on Hive for this initiative and thanks everyone who has participated! Keep creating and stay the course. See you on the next one. 🖍
