Years ago, I went to Bandung, West Java, Indonesia. Bandung was my second home because I used to study in Bandung. Two years after graduating from university, I came back to Bandung to reminisce (as well as a business visit).
At that time my friend and I were hunting for photos in a village. Suddenly there was a big fire in a factory, not far from where we were.
This is one of the moments that touched my heart the most. I saw firsthand how the firefighters struggled to extinguish the blazing fire and saved the people inside the factory.
Within hours, the fire was nearly extinguished. Suddenly the factory ceiling fell and buried two firefighters under the embers. One of them died instantly. Another one died after several days in the hospital, with severe burns that looked very painful.
Both died as heroes.
After a week in Bandung, I returned to my nest. Just then I heard there was an honorary ceremony for these two firefighters. I immediately took my drawing tools and painted this picture for them.
Today I want to remake it!
I took the picture using Samsung Galaxy A6 (2018)
The picture on the left is the original version. I made it with watercolor on watercolor paper. And the picture on the left is the digital version that I just make a while ago.
I tried hard to make it as similar as possible. But that's really hard lol. Especially because I (almost) never use the watercolor brush on my drawing apps. It's really hard for me to find the right brush or to control it.
I started by drawing a line using a pencil brush. Then I used a watercolor brush and started coloring. I chose the color and brush based on my feelings only. The result is very different from the original version, especially the color.
In the original image, I used a light blue color and overlaid it with a black gradient. But because that method failed, so apart from blue and black, I also took purple and red.
On another layer, I started to draw the background. I don't remember what color I used anymore. I even used a few different brush types.
Anyway, in this part, I just draw according to my feelings. The result sometimes frustrates me because it's gone too far from the original. But since I made this picture for fun and to fill my spare time, so that's okay.
Because I felt something was not quite right from the background detail, I then drew it again. I opened a different layer and hid the background layer. So I can more easily imagine where I should put the ruins of the building.
Once I had enough, I merged all the layers together. It's not the same, but I quite like it and am quite satisfied.
And here it is! When viewing the results on a tablet (I'm using a Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite), the colors look lighter. But after I switched to a laptop, for some reason the color went down and wasn't as bright as the original.
So I edited it a bit by changing its opacity, brightness, and shadow. Thank you for your time! If you enjoy it, please give me your <3 and comment.
