Hello Hivers! How’s it going?
I am a teenage artist and I’ve currently got 3 NTfs on Opensea.io! Hurray! But first, I want to celebrate my first NFT I ever put up there, I call it ‘Wild’.
Wild is a drawing of a girl sitting in a blooming forest with her ever-happy fox friend Salso. While I was drawing this masterpiece, I took pictures of the process so that I could make an article on how I drew it and how I generally draw!
Tune in to see my drawing process and how different my drawing looked from beginning to end!
So I started out with a picture reference of a girl sitting cross legged on the ground, but I didn’t show that here because I got that image off the internet and I don’t own the photo.
On the first sketch of the drawing I made shapes on how the body in the picture looked so that the body would be easier to draw when I refined it. The torso would be a rectangle, feet a smaller version of this, etc.
I knew my girl (Rose) would be sitting in the forest, and I decided to give her a pet friend! A fox sitting in her lap! I thought I knew how her face and hair would look already so I drew those on the first sketch.
if you’re wondering what those three different-colored dots are in that top layer to the right, that was the color palette I wanted for the background, which would be set in the forest.
I drew out a rough, and I mean ROUGH, sketch of the background, which I knew I would refine later.
By this photo, I had started to make the lineart for this drawing, changing a few things. As you can see, I changed Salso the fox's ears to be straighter instead of bendy. You can even see the face I was going for!
Here’s what the full lineart looked like. I tried to make the head shape very realistic.
(I also made sure she sat right where I wanted her to by adjusting her lineart to according to how the background looked.)
Here I figured I wanted Rose to have an afro instead of that long purple hair, so I went to work on the new hair idea! This wasn’t going to be just any afro though. Her hair would be a big, green, bush afro made of leaves! She would be truly one with nature! I drew a simple base, a circle around her head, with the purpose of making sure when I drew my leaves, they wouldn’t be lopsided. I started to draw her shoes too. Rose doesn’t walk barefoot! Oh yea, and I drew Salso’s face more clearly on his personal refinement layer. He looks happy already!
Here’s when I got to making her outfit. Her name is Rose, so you can tell what flower I wanted her togs to be based off of. She would wear an off-the-shoulder shirt which would have vines at the rim. How do they not prick her? You’d have to ask Rose! She was supposed to wear a rose-colored skirt, but since her wearing a skirt while cross-legged didn’t seem like it would look the best, I decided on rose-colored leggings with stylish petteled cuffs at the ends of them. I added more color dots at the top since she needed her skin and outfit color.
Let me tell you, I had the hardest time drawing her eyes! I couldn’t decide how they were going to look, and when I did draw them, they always looked off in some way. These circles you see here are me drawing a base for the eyes only to hate what I drew over them and start all over again. In the end, I gave up and told myself “I'll draw the eyes the best way I know how,” and I did.
And that’s it! If you want to see the full drawing (and bid for it), I do have it up on opensea at: https://opensea.io/assets/0x495f947276749ce646f68ac8c248420045cb7b5e/68810199055894423232479851341859404430889104166837488004417007924875743985665
