Greetings community, today I bring you again another drawing post, a portrait of the beautiful Natalie Portman, I love this actress since I met her in the movie, Leon "the professional". For this illustration I wanted to apply a new drawing technique, although adapting it to the one I use, it is about drawing directly on the canvas without using so many layers and mixing the colors directly on it, at first I was a little scared, for fear of making mistakes, but although I had some I knew how to fix them along the way. I think this drawing gave me a small step forward in improving my art, I learned to have more control of the canvas and the mixing of colors, besides being more fluid and not so technical.

Saludos comunidad, hoy les traigo nuevamente otro post de dibujo, un retrato de la hermosa Natalie Portman, amo esta actriz desde que la conocí en la película, León “el profesional”. Para esta ilustración quise aplicar una técnica nueva de dibujo, aunque adaptándola a la que uso, se trata en dibujar directamente en el lienzo sin usar tantas capas y mezclando directamente los colores en la misma, al principio me dio un poco de miedo, por temor de cometer errores, pero aunque tuve algunos supe cómo ir arreglándolos en el camino. Creo que este dibujo di un pequeño avance en mejorar mi arte, aprendí a tener más control del lienzo y en la mezcla de colores, además de ser más fluido el pintado y no se tan técnico.

Drawing development / Desarrollo ✏️

Taking as a reference the photo that was presented, I made a semi-realistic adaptation of Natalie, the development of the drawing consists mainly of applying the different shades on the canvas and mixing the colors directly, and then apply textures and shades until the desired result is reached, plus extra layers of different brightness.

Tomando como referencia la foto que se presentó, realice una adaptación semirealista de Natalie, el desarrollo del dibujo consiste principalmente en aplicar las diferentes tonalidades en el lienzo e ir mezclando directamente los colores, para luego aplicar texturas y matices hasta llegar al resultado deseado, además de capas extras de diferentes brillos.

The beginning of the drawing is done as you all know, I start with the sketch trying to capture the particular features of the person. This is the most important step because it is the basis of our drawing. Then I start to apply the corresponding color, using shades with little saturation, to then have a larger amplitude when playing with the other tones.

El inicio del dibujo lo realizo como ya todos saben, comienzo con el boceto tratando de captar los rasgos particulares de la persona. Este es el paso más importante porque es la base de nuestro dibujo. Luego empiezo a aplicar el color correspondiente, usando tonalidades con poca saturación, para luego tener una amplitud más grande a la hora de jugar con los demás tonos.

Little by little I was giving volume to the face, playing with the same tones, raising a little the saturation and rolling slightly in the color wheel towards the warmer colors, also in this step I was giving shape to the eyes, lips and hair, although in this step for the same fear of making a mistake, I did it in separate layers.

Poco a poco fui dándole volumen al rostro, jugando con las mismas tonalidades, subiendo un poco la saturación y rodando leventemente en la rueda cromática el color hacia los más cálidos, también en este paso fui dándole forma a los ojos, labios y cabello, aunque en este paso por el mismo temor de cometer un error, lo hice en capas separadas.

The intention of this drawing was to learn how to draw with only one layer, so I decided to join them all, I kept applying little by little different tones and I was mixing them with the blurred brush, highlighting more and more the shadows and shines. I also developed a simple background to give more harmony to the drawing.

La intención de este dibujo era aprender a dibujar a una sola capa, entonces decidí a unirlas todas, seguí aplicando de a poco diferentes tonos y los iba mezclando con el pincel difuminado, resaltando cada vez más las sombras y brillos. Eso sí a parte desarrolle un fondo sencillo para ir dándole más armonía al dibujo.

As I mentioned at the beginning, this drawing consisted of combining both techniques, once I was satisfied with the design I was getting, I went on to "improve" it by applying the different mixing methods that I usually use, from multiplying to reinforce the shadows, to soft light and adding for the glows, so I was working the drawing until I got the final result.

Como les comente al inicio, este dibujo consistió en combinar ambas técnicas, una vez que estuve satisfecho del diseño que estaba obteniendo, pase a “mejorarlo” aplicando las diferentes métodos de mezclas que suelo usar, desde el multiplicar para reforzar las sombras, hasta luz suave y añadir para los brillos, así fui trabajando el dibujo hasta obtener el resultado final.
