Hello everyone! Today I am going to share a drawing that I made in my sketchbook. I just used a Hb pencil and a 2B pencil to draw and add details to it. It is a drawing of a charming candle holder. The design is classic and I think it can still serve a decorative purpose although we don't necessarily need them for light now.
Basic outline
This is the basic outline of the drawing. I just used a Hb pencil to do this. I did try a few times befoee landing on the final outline so I get the proportions the way I wanted. I actually got the inspiration to draw this from an art tutorial book. The artwork in that was different and much more complicated. I simplified it to my liking.
Shading
Then, I started adding some shading to the drawing. I began adding those details from the bottom because I felt that it's easier that way. I used both the Hb pencil and the 2B pencil. At a point I held both pencils together in one hand so it's easier to switch between them. So I was done with the candle holder.
Highlights and corrections
I was not satisfied with some regions so I erased some parts lightly and redid the details again. I used my lighter hand to shade the glass part so it looks much lighter. I focused on the flame and got that done.
Adding Details
I darkened some regions with the 2B pencil which helped to add a nice shade and depth to the artwork. I layered them again and again, almost like the burnishing layer we do with colour pencils. That way, it yields the maximum shade payout.
Final Touches
I erased the shadows on the glass because I was still not satisfied as it felt a little fake. I redid them so the shadows look in a vertical way. Then I also added some colour on the ground along with some shadows. I don't know why but it appears to be floating to my eyes now 😂 I actually got fed up at this point and called this artwork done. Although I enjoyed the process of shading, I lost my patience as I have been sitting on this drawing for more than a week now. I guess it isn't so bad and serves as a practice session and not an artwork striving for perfection.
Thank you for dropping by and I hope that you have a great day ahead!
