Greetings dear friends of the Hive platform, welcome back to my blog. In this writing I will present some pictures about some arachnids that live among my plants, so I invite you to appreciate the following images.
Saludos queridos amigos de la plataforma Hive, bienvenidos de nuevo a mi blog. En este escrito presentaré algunas fotos sobre algunos arácnidos que viven entre mis plantas, por lo que los invito a apreciar las siguientes imágenes.
Members of the order Araneae are present in a wide variety of terrestrial ecosystems, it is very common that most humans are afraid of them due to the morphology that some of them present and above all, because they have earned a bad reputation due to the painful and lethal sting of some species such as those belonging to the genus Latrodectus. However, all this fear is also very badly spread by the world of cinema, where through movies they are placed as very dangerous beings.
Los miembros del orden araneae están presentes en una gran variedad de ecosistemas terrestres, es muy común que gran parte de los seres humanos les tengan miedo debido a la morfología que presentan algunas y sobre todo, porque se han ganado una mala fama debido a la dolorosa y letal picadura de algunas especies como las pertenecientes al género Latrodectus. Sin embargo, todo este temor también es muy mal difundido por el mundo del cine, en donde a través de películas las colocan como seres muy peligrosos.
Some months ago during a technical inspection that I made in a small orchard, I found that the owners were frightened by a high presence of arachnids in the area where they worked, they asked me to verify if these spiders were of medical importance or harmful to the plants they produced there. When I saw the type of spiders they mentioned, I was able to appreciate the beautiful specimen you see in the photo, which belongs to the genus Leucauge.
Hace algunos meses durante una inspección técnica que realice en un pequeño huerto, me tope con que los dueños estaban asustados por una alta presencia de arácnidos en la zona donde laboraban, me pidieron que verificara si dichas arañas eran de importancia médica o dañinas para las plantas que allí producían. Al ver el tipo de arañas al que hacían mención, logré apreciar a ese hermoso ejemplar que aprecian en la foto, el cual pertenece al género Leucauge.
Spiders belonging to this genus are not of medical importance and do not represent a danger to plant species, on the contrary, they are biological controllers of many other arthropods that are harmful both for us and for plants when their populations increase exponentially. When I told them about this small spider they were calmer and I took the opportunity to capture one and take it to my garden, the spider that I brought home is the one in the photo.
As you can see in the photo, this type of arachnids are very colorful, they also have a series of orange patterns under their opisthosoma (abdomen) that resembles a smiling face; these colors are used to mislead potential predators.
Las arañas pertenecientes a dicho género no son de importancia médica y tampoco representan un peligro para las especies vegetales, por el contrario, son controladores biológicos de muchos otros artrópodos que si son perjudiciales tanto para nosotros como para las plantas cuando sus poblaciones aumentan de manera exponencial. Cuando les hablé sobre esta pequeña araña se quedaron más tranquilos y aproveche para capturar una y llevarla a mi jardín, dicha araña que me traje a casa es la de la foto.
Como pueden apreciar en la foto, este tipo de arácnidos son muy coloridos, además poseen una serie de patrones anaranjados bajo su opistosoma (abdomen) que se asemeja a un rostro sonriente; dichos colores los utilizan para despistar a posibles depredadores.
The spider adapted perfectly to the agroecosystem present in my house and now it is part of those living beings that I frequently see among my plants. It is currently located in the window of my room, so I see it there every day and I appreciate that "smiling face" that it has under its abdomen and that it shows me every morning. Undoubtedly, nature is beautiful when we manage to understand it and value what it gives us.
La araña se adaptó perfectamente al agroecosistema presente en mi casa y ahora forma parte de esos seres vivos que veo frecuentemente entre mis plantas. Actualmente se ubicó en la ventana de mi habitación, por lo que diariamente la veo allí y aprecio ese "rostro sonriente" que posee bajo su abdomen y que me muestra cada mañana. Sin lugar a dudas la naturaleza es hermosa cuando logramos entenderla y valoramos lo que nos da.
On the other hand, this small spider is another of the escorts that my plants possess. This tiny spider belongs to the family Araneidae and is a specimen of the genus Araneus; this arthropod is not of medical importance and lives among the foliage of one of the lemon trees that I planted several years ago when I was a college student with one of my 3 best friends who died yesterday victim of COVID-19, that tree is one of the fond memories of him that remain in the house where we grew up and where we laughed our heads off.
Por otro lado, esta pequeña araña es otra de las escoltas que poseen mis plantas. Esta diminuta araña pertenece a la familia Araneidae y es un ejemplar del género Araneus; este artrópodo tampoco es de importancia médica y hace vida entre el follaje de uno de los arboles de limón que pude sembrar hace varios años cuando era estudiante universitario junto a uno de mis 3 mejores amigos el cual falleció el día de ayer victima del COVID-19, ese árbol es uno de los gratos recuerdos de él que quedan en la casa donde crecimos y donde reimos a más no poder.
This arachnid usually spins its web inside the foliage of plant species and generally hides in a leaf which it subtly wraps. Likewise, its diet is based on those small insects that have the misfortune to adhere to its sticky trap.
Este arácnido suele tejer su tela de araña dentro del follaje de las especies vegetales y generalmente se oculta en una hoja la cual envuelve sutilmente. Asimismo, su alimentación se basa en aquellos pequeños insectos que tengan la mala fortuna de adherirse a su pegajosa trampa.
As you can see in the photographs, this spider has an egg sac which it protects to the death. Most members of the order araneae are characterized by guarding their young during their first days of life, thus ensuring that the majority of their offspring survive and can continue their development within terrestrial ecosystems.
Como pueden observar en las fotografías, esta araña tiene un saco de huevos el cual protege a muerte. La mayoría de miembros del orden araneae se caracterizan por custodiar a sus crías durante sus primeros días de vida, de esta manera se aseguran de que la mayoría de su descendecia logre sobrevivir y pueda seguir su especie desarrollandose dentro de los ecosistemas terrestres.
