While we're awaiting some big improvements to both @poshtoken and the website hiveposh.com and have some contests lined up for when that is ready, along with the POSH PETS NFT we're waiting on finally getting out there, I wanted to make a post about a different kind of POSH activity I have been thinking of rewarding but wondering what the best way would be to go about it, hence I'm writing this post now to see what the community thinks as it is very much a community driven project.
So let's say POSH is now working perfectly, you are registered on hiveposh.com and have linked your web2 accounts with your Hive account to received earned POSH and Hive rewards, but there is something you're wondering on why it isn't being rewarded similar to how POSH works.
Discussions and mentions of #hive outside of sharing direct Hive links in tweets or replies.
One could say that a well-placed comment to a tweet could be worth just as much if not more than sharing a Hive link along with the rest of your worded tweet. Someone out there may be wondering why there are no proper web3's yet and you are there in time and have the community backing your tweet with likes and retweets for letting them know that Hive exists and that they've been missing out on it. That should be rewarded as well, right? A link may maybe do the thing you are saying less justice there considering many are tired of links from the era of referral links sending people to scams or pyramid schemes.
Then again, though, not everyone may have the best intentions of Hive when tagging or discussing about it. Many of you here know the history of how we split up from the centralized chain that was taken over in the most unbelievable way possible through the help of exchanges locking up users funds to help Justin Sun overtake governance and how the remaining fake witnesses turned to stealing people's assets because they didn't receive a Hive airdrop after directly assisting the takeover through witness voting. Needless to say Hive has enemies, not just those from that part of the history but also others who are aware of Hive but would like to start their own solution of a token they can have a much bigger control of thus profit off more than buy into Hive and see the decentralized community do well and reach for new heights and possibilities that would bring. Not to mention the giants of currently leading web2 platforms who would in no way want others to have a chance to shine, either way, point is there are enemies and they're not going to rest similar as we don't rest about letting others know what Hive has to offer for decentralization, immutability and fair rewards towards users.
With that said, this activity would be a bit more controversial, you'd want to be able to ban users from earning POSH for different reasons other than the usual sockpuppetry twitter abuse we've had to remove some POSH earners from. Thus my idea was that maybe it could instead be a different token but linked to POSH in certain ways.
- POSH holders could in a governance way vote if certain Twitter accounts should be disallowed from earning from their controversial tweets.
- Part of the new token could be airdropped to POSH holders.
- POSH, seeing as it is becoming like its own DAO, could support the new token with some buy back the same way it does for POSH.
- This new token would be specifically for "no links" tweets discussing hive and our ecosystem.
Okay so let's get over these points a bit now, the governance vote would be a bit technical and maybe not worth all the effort to build just to vote on who gets to be removed from earning said new token, maybe a simple post and discussion surrounding the user would do well enough.
Airdropping is a popular way to kickstart a token, even though POSH still to this day has no real demand to be purchased aside from speculation, this could give the current token holders some extra benefits and since many who've earned POSH have already provided a lot of value to Hive by potentially bringing in more users to our front-ends and if anything growing the twitter space of Hive users they'd deserve an airdrop in the new currency that would reward people for primarily discussing and tagging hive in other ways than through links.
Buybacks are also popular in the space, if you believe in your token and believe it is bringing value to Hive you want to continue rewarding such activity consistently at the cost of the hive reward pool. There's a lot of things being rewarded these days and as long as the community agrees that this activity is worth it it will keep being rewarded through means of buybacks and burns (or staking rewards) to holders and earners. @poshtoken is growing through the reward pool, in the future if it becomes big enough it may even get it's own proposal going to be funded, the way things have been going I don't think we're far off from reaching that point looking at the activity we have on Twitter these days. Add in a few more web2 POSH eligible front-ends and we may start to see our community grow a lot more on web2 to assist our ecosystem with much needed traffic and activitiy from new users. As a social media platform that is one of its main needs.
Last point is selfexplanatory.
The question now is, why not just allocate a certain % of the daily POSH issuance towards the "no link" activity, rather than creating a new "sub token".
So the reason I think it would be better with another token connected to it, is that we'd want the POSH token to keep being rewarded for direct links. Not just that those would over time be more verifiable (think @peakd view counter, potential other front-ends adding viewcounters in the future), it would give the sharing activity more weight in terms of not only are you earning POSH and potential Hive for it, but possibly even adrevenue from sending people to your or other users Hive posts through web2. To be honest I'm surprised we haven't tackled adrevenue content creator rewarding yet but I'm sure it's something we're going to get to eventually with more traffic.
Another reason is that POSH itself could be a standalone program for bigger "influencers" to earn by sharing Hive links on web2. When at some point users can earn from not only sharing onto Twitter but a diverse range of other web2 platforms and hiveposh.com does not only let you link your Hive and Twitter (and other web2 accounts) but also offers a way to create a hive account, there could be many signing up who aren't content creators themselves but wish to share Hive posts they like to their wide audience on web2 and directly earn POSH or another currency of choise to be transferred to a wallet of their choosing.
Having the two tokens interconnected with each other also gives value to current holders along with many future additions we want to add towards POSH and possibly the other token.
Anyway, just some thoughts about it, there is obviously a lot of things to still finetune and the new token is still some ways off before being created but it's never too early to bring things up to discuss them and listen to ideas of how they can be created better and include more ways to bring value to the project which in turn brings value to the Hive ecosystem and everyone involved as a whole.
Last but not least, what do you all think of the token name "POSHI"/"POSHi", would fit well with it being a subtoken to POSH and at the same time could stand for "proof of shilling", the word shilling has some negative annotations towards it mainly cause most people who do shill these days do it for literal garbage coins and tokens (not fully their fault considering that's over 80% of the top200 marketcap) but when you have something of actual value, potential, utility and innovation I'd say shilling is very much acceptable in that case and should be encouraged. :)
Let me know your thoughts!
