Look what I spotted at Doha airport during my transit, a RedBull Formula 1 car. Well obviously not now but 2 years ago.
I really didn't expect much during my journey back home from Mexico. I had to fly from Mexico to India and had a 4 hour layover at Doha. So as I casually roamed the airport searching for shops to buy at the last minutes some chocolates and gifts for my family I spotted this beast just lying there waiting to be admired. As a Motorsport and Formula 1 fan I almost jumped up in joy.
And then it was time to click.
4 hours of wait time flew away in seconds as I first just stood there and then circled around it , admiring this beautiful machinery. This was way before I saw my first ever F1 Grand Prix so it amazed me how big the car was, especially the length.
And a close up look at all the aerodynamics in the front and rear wings was astonishing. It looked artistic and a great piece of engineering at the same time.
Details of the car
The car in the picture is the number 3 car which means it was driven by Australian driver Daniel Ricciardo.
The car is named the RedBull RB 12. It was actually driven in the season of 2016 by 3 drivers. At the season start Daniil Kvyat (RUS) and Daniel Ricciardo (AUS) were teammates but due to performance issues for Kvyat he was replaced by the Team Manager just after 3 races and in came Max Verstappen (NL).
The car would go on to place Red Bull 2nd in the standings with almost 12 podium finishes (combined result of both cars in a team)
Also interesting to note that Max Verstappen and Daniel Ricciardo managed to win 1 Grand Prix each with this car.
