Pittsburgh Hasn't Had Much Snow At All This Year
We have been patiently waiting to drag the snowsuits, boots, hats, gloves, scarfs, and sleds out! And finally Thursday night through Friday afternoon we got what we have been waiting for. When I was a child it would snow late October early November and that snow would be here until Late March early April.
The weather has certainly changed from the time I was a kid. You talk with some people and they will tell you the earth goes through these cycles, you talk to others and they will tell you it is the government and there is some crazy conspiracy theory, and yet others will say it's global warming. I do not know what it is what I do know with certainty is that it is changing!
In 2017, 18, & 19 we broke records for the amount of rain we had for the year. And most of the winter is relatively mild. I live in the northeastern US most of the time it's cold here in the winter months. I used to have so much fun as a child building forts, snowball battles, and sledding until we had frostbite. My children are lucky if they get 3-4 sledding sessions in the winter. So when it snows needless to say the excitement level in our house is through the roof!
We bundled up and went out and played for several hours in about 5 1/2" of snow, which is typically here well before Christmas but this year it didn't happen until February 6. At least it did show up and we were able to get one good sledding, snowman building, snowball throwing, playing outside until our fingers were numb session in!
Once back inside we made hot cocoa and wrapped up under blankets and watched Disney's Frozen on television, it just seemed fitting! Our dog loves the snow as well, she was outside chasing us down the hill while we flew on our sleds she was keeping up right beside us! Funny dog!
Now That It Has Snowed The 70s Can Return
Now that I am older I will admit I am happy to get the winter over and get into those springtime temps. My tolerance for the cold weather is not what it once was. I could hang out in the cold at field parties late at night standing around a bonfire until the early morning hours(the alcohol probably played a major role in that) virtually every night without a coat and without a second thought! It snowed we got to play now come on spring!
The wintertime is rather depressing as it is with its short days and long dark nights that I am more than happy to shake the winter off and welcome spring. Plus everything is dead in the winter, no green leaves no flowers, no birds, just drab.
I like when it starts to thaw out and the birds are back tweeting at 5 am, the weather is warm, and there are more outdoor activities. This is the season of carnivals and swimming, so I say bring it on!
What are your theories about the weather, have you noticed change where you live? Do you think global warming or just natural cycles? Curious to hear what goes on around the world in terms of strange weather patterns. Are you more fond of the winter or summer? I look forward to your comments! Always welcome open dialog on my posts I love meeting people and building meaningful relationships with people!
