Challenging myself
There are some things we know, but we never do them until something hits and reset our olfactory lobe. Daughter wakes up in the morning and starts playing with her phone lying on the bed. Mum came from her room and met the whole house unkept at about 9:30 am. Julian; Mummy shouted.
She rushed from her room and met mum in the sitting room. Good morning mum.
Mum replied: What is good about the morning when you've wasted more than 3 hours of your time doing something else (Talking shit on phone) leaving the house rough and scattered.
Procrastination is the thief of time
Of course, she knew she was supposed to tidy the house when she woke by 6 am, but she chose to chat instead. Until she was called to action, she remained in her room saying I will do it later (in her mind). Little did she know that 3 hours have passed.
Mum was already dressed. They wanted to go out together by 10:00 am. It's late already for her to meet up with tiding the house, bathing and dressing up. Mum had to go without her. She missed the long-awaited opportunity of seeing TD Jake when he visited Nigeria to minister at COZA (Common Wealth Zion).
She had the opportunity to fulfill her dream of seeing and attending TD Jake's live program, but, she blew it by procrastinating.
Oh! No wonder!
That's what they say procrastination is the thief of time. It stole her time and deprived her the right to see the renowned man of God she had dreamt of.
There's always another time, but when will it be? That's why we need to take every opportunity seriously.
This story also fits me. But it seems I still have the time to cut procrastination and take back my time. @anomadsoul's post happens to be a brain opener for me. I've had it in mind to learn to code, but I've not been serious about it. It's always one excuse or another. But some part of his contents strikes a primal chord in me.
He wrote:
We all have life goals we haven't even began to strive for because we tell ourselves we don't have the time.
We dream dreams that our normal routine doesn't let us materialize due to the daily stress.
If after this quarantine, we come out of the house the same person we were before all this madness and chaos, then this wasn't about time, stress or daily worries... we simply didn't achieve anything else in life because of our laziness, lack of drive and abundance of excuses.
Holy shit! These statements reset my hypothalamus. It was as if my skull was split into two halves and worked on. This is the 6th day of total lockdown in Lagos and Abuja (Nigeria) and I've been on quarantine before the announcement.
Truth be told, I've been watching movies, playing video games, and playing with the kids and other family members. But I think It's time to take the bull by the horn and start learning.
What do I want to achieve during this quarantine?
Start learning how to code
I've always loved to learn to code, but I've not taken any step towards building myself. I will like to know about front and back end development(Full stack), so I will have to start with HTML followed by CSS. I will also learn how to use framework after, which I will move to Javascript.
I know I have a limited time, looking at the task ahead, but I will make sure I learn something every day no matter how little (even after the quarantine period)
How will I achieve this?
Setting some tangible and achievable milestones for the challenges would help. I have the whole time to myself. I can decide to sleep or watch movies without anyone disturbing me, so I will use part of this time to start learning.
Time for learning
2 hours in the morning
1 hour in the evening
1 hour at night.
These totals to 4 hours per day. Sometimes, I might exceed the planned time, but I don't want to set a time I won't be able to abide by. I can surely discipline myself to this cause.
Weekly review
Now, I don't know anything about coding so it will be difficult to set date for each goal. Maybe if I start, I will know what is ahead and will be able to guide myself in the right way without rushing and falling off the cliff. What I'm certain about is that I will always have some reasonable story about my progress every week, and I will work towards getting better. My weekly post will show how consistent I am, as I will not want to lag in any way.
I'm starting the journey today, meaning I will be posting my weekly progress every Saturday or Sunday
Please, if you are reading this and you know any materials that can help me in this journey, kindly comment it below this post. I would really appreciate your input.
In my leisure time, I will also be practicing my old skills in drawing 3D letters and doing other pencil work. This won't affect my learning. It would
rather give me more inspiration to learn faster.
Thank you for spending your precious time here reading my unworthy post. Please, I need you to follow and guide me as I take a bold step towards becoming a self taught programmer. Namaste.
