It all happened 3years ago when I was still a news sub editor at Lagos traffic radio 96.1fm. I was one of the editor in the news room, our main job is to source for news which is a time factor thing. Every bulletin consist of at least 5-9 news, that consist of traffic news, sport, foreign and local news.
On this day, I edited about 5 bulletin that will be taken to the senior editor for proper editing. I was notified to round up what I was doing so I was rushing to complete the 5th bulletin because I wanted to get a good recommendation from the senior editor at the end of the week employee report, in the process I forgot to save the bulletin I was editing on the system, after about 5 minute there was power outage, the ups supplying power to the computer I was editing on was faulty and we don't edit on Microsoft word, we edit on note. As soon as the power went off he stood up and asked if I have saved the bulletin, i knew the first primary guideline while editing is to save as you edit to avoid unnecessary complications during power outage. Knowing this I could not make a sound or give him an answer. He got upset and sent me out of the news room. Being a sub editor to a senior editor in a news room, at least I have about 5 editors under my supervision, we all sat together in the news room, it all happened in front of them. So I walked out and sat in the reception as if that is not enough. After about 30 minutes I was called in by the senior editor, he told me to assist the lead reporter going to the deputy governor office at secretariat, I followed him with excitement because that was my first time going to the deputy governor office during the deputy governors cup.
On getting there, we talked to the receptionist, so she directed us to the office of the man we were there to see. We walked there but because of the excitement I forgot to knock, I just opened the door🤣. The reporter was upset, while standing there the woman that was with the man we were there to see stood up and walked to us, without asking to know who was at fault she gave the lead reporter a slap. It was as if time stopped, I could not make a sound, I was in shock. After the slap he apologized to the woman on my behalf.
After we got back he reported to my senior editor and I was suspended for 2 weeks though I still believe I deserved more punishment than what was given because I really messed up.
