Grouchy hasn't always been the most responsible fellow; He has a slight drinking problem, eats too many Oreo's and tends to get quite short with people...Plus, he doesn't suffer fools gladly, which he probably picked up from me to be honest. But he made me think about something quite profound today.
He's only been with me for a few weeks as a volunteer replacement for his cousin Grumpy who used to travel the world with me...Grumpy went missing and is presumed, in fact declared, deceased, and so Grouchy and I have been acquainted and are getting to know each other. Some of you have met him already.
Anyway, last night Grouchy read a post I did about being prepared which you can read here and, bless his external heart, he decided to help prepare for the "zombie apocalypse" that is apparently going to arise from the recent virus situation.
You can see him here with his contribution to our apocalyse-food-stores. A cinnamon-sugar donut. He was so proud of himself.
OK, so the right intent was there, but he missed the mark a little I'd say. Still, I thanked him, gave him some words of encouragement and sent him on his way.
Before he went though, he made a comment.
He asked why I'd bother preparing anything at all considering I had guns and could simply take what I wanted from someone else anyway.
I tried not to smirk at his naivety and explained that the real world wasn't at all like The Walking Dead on TV and that people will always help other people, not use their power to take from them.
He seemed to accept that explanation and moved on.
The question stayed in my mind though and the more I thought about it the more I began to doubt my own answer.
Really? The world isn't full of people willing to take by force what is not theirs to take? Really?
The more I thought about it, the more I thought about the recent shenanigans on steem and how those in a position of power exerted their will, used their power and influence, to cause certain things to happen on exchanges and locked up people's crypto for their own use and gain. It sure sounds the same as someone using a gun to force someone without the same power into, or out of, a particular thing.
Hmm, maybe the world isn't as friendly a place as I had told grouchy.
I don't know, maybe the world really is a place full of selfish assholes willing to use others for their own gain. Maybe those in positions of weakness are preyed upon by those in power, vultures picking over the bones of the weak. Maybe the bulk of the population are just passengers and the high and mighty the drivers. Interesting thoughts.
Ok, so for those of you who don't know, there's a lot of sarcasm here. I mean I know the world is full of egotistical, narcissistic, materialistic megalomaniacs who only have themselves in mind and don't care, in the least bit, about those outside their circle. History is full of those types, as is the daily news.
Steem has seen its fair share too...Yes, that's you circle-jerkers, reward-pool abusers and others who act in ways that promote themselves and their own cause at the expense of others.
And here we are, chin-deep in a cesspit of lumpy, runny, reeking shit, with bits of corn in it, carrot cubes too. Add in some japchae, kimchi and samgyeopsal and we'd have a hearty Korean sir-fry huh?
Yes folks, thanks to those who hold themselves and their needs wants above those of the community we are on the verge of eating Korean-flavoured shit-soup - The single photo-post on that soup will probably make a circle-jerked $30 though I'm sure.
Still, there are those who keep the flame alight...That's people like you, reading this post, and you posting stuff yourself! Yep, we're still here...Is that a little naive like Grouchy bringing a donut home for survival food? Maybe, but hell I don't care...I've never been one to respond well to being forced.
By the way, if you want to read a really good post about the steem situation, read this one as this dude @tarazkp seems to know what he is talking about. And the way I understand it Binnace has since admitted the error of their ways and has moved to redress it...Light at the end of the tunnel?
Anyway, I'm off to eat a donut. I mean, I'm off to find Grouchy and give him a more accurate impression of what the world is like so that he is more prepared; Being prepared, after all, is what I do, and endorse.
