The Beginning
22nd November in the 80’s my beautiful big eyes lit up as I entered into the world, never knew what I was coming out to experience of cause, but I am sure I enjoyed mama’s milk.
I spent the next 10years of my life in the ghetto of Orile-Iguamu, somewhere in Lagos, Nigeria. My father was a very talented Sculptor/curator and my mother was what you will call a old G marketer / entrepreneur, as she would sell and market anything put in front of her. My Dad ended up been a curator at the national theatre and one of his work is the madam Tinubu statue, if you appreciate Art you will love it.
A ghetto is all about survival of the fittest, we lived in a one room famously known as a face me - I face you..(Meaning:- when u step out of your room, you are directly facing another room, and there’s a long hall way built in the same pattern). I was born in the ghetto but my parents made sure I looked like a city boy, which made me an easy target for bullying and extortion.
My First lesson
My first lesson in life was learning to adapt to my environment, I was picked on as a cool kid int the ghetto, but I always knew how to talk my way out of a situation and if I couldn’t I RAN... LOL
If you are wondering if I still talk my way out or/and RUN,Hmmm... well we will find out in my journey as a “Hivite”as I will love to call myself in these seemingly interesting platform introduced to me by my wife @estherscott, the love of my life and the mother of my handsome son LeRoy Scott.
Anyway, fast forward to 2004 as my life after high school was looking all interesting, we had already left the ghetto and now living an average but comfortable life with my siblings of cause ( You thought I was the only child🙃). September 19th, 2004, Dad passed with a stroke and my world turned upside down. My best friend is gone what now? I am just 18yrs old with three sisters and a mom to take care of, I sure couldn’t talk my way out of this or Run.
My Journey to a foreign country
Pops got buried in October, mom was still mourning, my siblings and I were still mourning. A year went by, my education was temporarily on hold and then an opportunity to travel abroad came through a crooked agent that charged so much even if he delivered the Visa.
October 25th 2005, I landed in South Africa with just 300$ and with no known contact, I had a fantasy in my head but my real life journey just began.
My name is Sebastian Scott-Emuakpor and I was birth and breed in the school of hard knocks, I have a PHD of experience in streetwise and survival. During my journey I studied Communication science, I have about 8yrs in clients relations. I love to collect/build Models ( Sovereign of the seas, McLaren), I also have a few ultimate graphic novel collections, some Zippo lighter collections.
I am a lover of Artworks as Arr runs in my veins (Thabks to Papa). Lover of music and good food.
I love to travel and explore new cultures and in my travels I always start from the ghetto to understand how it’s like opposed to my beginnings.
Big ups to @ocd for the opportunity to share a wee bit of my life here, there’s more to come in my journey, @lovesniper & @indayclara for making it smoother and easier for newbies to find their ways around Hive. @ starstrings01 I read your journey and it was inspiring, you have come a long way G.
Finally, when the world starts getting me down and begins to close in on me, I'll plaster a pretty fake smile on my lips and say "f%&# you" through gritted teeth. Then happily I'll skip away while whistling some Bob Marley.
Life is short, enjoy the hell out of it with no regrets.✌🏽
