I'm excited to make my second entry for Qurator's Photo Quest. And this week's challenge is to share a phphotograph depicting juxtaposition. Being a commercial photographer that mostly does portraits, this would have been hard contest for me.
Fortunately, aside from being a commercial photographer, I do take out time to do some random street photography, and a photograph from one of such days would serve as my entry this week.
Looking at the photograph, you'll find that the major subject are quite on the same spot going in opposite directions. You'd almost think the photograph was planned, but I can assure you it wasn't.
My focus however, was on the man walking towards my direction. And I didn't pay attention to other elements around him. I just wanted to get the shot fast before he noticed that I was taking photos of him. I was using a 200m lens so I was quite far away from him. But at his pace, it'll take 3 steps for him to be in my face. Bearing that in mind, I took the shot.
I only realised I had made something quite epic when I saw the preview on the camera.
This photograph represents 2 different people pursing one single goal; to earn a living. But one's means is to get his hands really dirty, and the other is to sit somewhere decent and just be present.
Two different people, Two different directions, but one purpose.
