Esa Kripanik is a famous artist from the remote Inuit community of Igloolik, Nunavut. He favours stone, ivory, bone and antler as his preferred mediums. Esa Kripanik focuses on creating sculptures to look as real as possible. The stone is rarely polished and a dry flat finish is preferred. This piece is carved from soapstone and rests on a white limestone base. What makes sculptures by Esa Kripanik so different are the polished engravings often carved onto the sides. There is a beautiful arctic Narwhal on the left side of the bear and two spectacular Ring Seals on the other side.
If you wish to purchase your own Esa Kripanik carving there are several galleries online that feature his work.
