As some of my close followers may remember, a little over two months ago our local Co-Op Grocery store burnt to the ground. Since that time there's been a few more fires in town. The night of March 11th 2021, notched one more fire for the town. This time, it was a residential fire in a connected row of houses, with smoke billowing out the front and the back of the building. Our volunteer firefighters have been getting quite the workout.
I feel that the fires in this town need to be documented.
There is a LOT of burnt out buildings in this town, or buildings in a state of half-repair from a fire the year prior. The reason that I go dashing out with my camera to these events is because I feel my documentation of the amount of fire can bring about change. Something is wrong in Igloolik. There is an EXTREME amount of fires in this town per capita.
The shots I got were not that great. I grabbed a monopod, thinking the ambient light would allow for fast enough shutter speed to make up for my slight wobble, but I was wrong and should have grabbed my tripod. At the same time, though, I am NOT a Photojournalist and do not want to get in the way of even pedestrians when I am taking photos of these local disasters.
