Most people believe that they need to put extreme effort to achieve something.
Well, you don’t need to do anything extraordinary.
In fact, you need to do the opposite. Do ordinary things and achieve extraordinary results.
Ordinary things like being accountable to your work, being consistent, showing up daily to work will do wonders in the long term.
Consistency is nothing less than a superpower. Showing up daily to do something does not sound too much of an effort but that's where most people fail.
In life we often go through financial troubles, emotional turmoils and unexpected things like an epidemic.
Handling all these things and being consistent is nothing short of a superpower.
Some people think that you need positive attitude, goals to succeed. I feel you just need to be consistent. Everything else will fall in place.
Because there are days when you aren't motivated. Some days you won’t have any power to do anything at all. And some days, you will be filled with negative thoughts. There is no way to find any positivity around you.
So what to do on days like these?
You show up as usual.
Be consistent.
And motivation will come along.
Your actions today will define your tomorrow.
Do you know long term goals can make you depressed?
How?
Well, when you have a big goal in front of you, you start with eagerness, but with time you lose your motivation to do anything.
Days goes by and you don’t feel like you want to do anything.
The right time will never come.
If you show up and start doing a small thing, you will pick up the momentum and complete everything in time.
I used to set big goals about my life.
In 5 years, I will have x amount of money.
In 3 years, I will have a successful online business.
But, as the years passed, I didn't do anything at all. And that made me depressed.
Long term goals are important. They give us direction and bring structure in our life.
But they also distract us from the present moment.
The problem with long term goals is that most of us set them with unrealistic outcomes.
We want only big things in our life. In five years, I want to be financial independent, even if I am broke today and have no plans how I will reach there.
Having long term goals means you don’t have to do anything now.
And with time, your commitment to do anything at all goes away.
What we always forget is that we can not plan exactly for our future. A single event can mess up all our plans.
For example, a sudden death in our family, getting under debt, underpaid jobs, bad economy, technology and unseen epidemics like corona virus.
One unexpected event can ruin all our future plans.
What happens when you achieve your big goal?
Do you quit on life? And move to a secluded location.
Goals like making money, setting up an online business are only steps in the big picture.
It's a mean to elevate ourself. They are never end results.
What I always try to achieve through my goals is to make a new habit.
For example, my goal was to write daily. Now I am writing daily. So what do I do? Quit?
No, it was only a means to improve myself in writing, to read more and to develop my mindset.
Making a habit of writing daily was a means to me. The end result was my development.
Even when you build up a habit, you need to compete with the lucky people, who already have more resources than you.
So, what can you possibly do?
If someone is more successful than you they are either lucky or outworking you.
Life is unfair, but you still got one chance. The chance is to outwork everyone.
The best lesson I have learned is that consistency beats everything. Talent, luck, resources.
Will Smith said it in the best way possible. Every time I listen to him, it pumps me up.
He said that he isn’t afraid to die on a treadmill.
“ I will not be out-worked, period. You might have more talent than me, you might be smarter than me, sexier than me. But if we get on a treadmill together, there’s two things: You are getting off first, or I’m going to die.”
The intensity of this quote makes me eager to work more.
I mean you can not win against that level of commitment in your life.
And you can not lose with that level of commitment.
