Sometimes we think coding is just a tool for software development. We are so used to reading how coders developed this or that software, we forget there are tons of other applications it is used for. Yesterday, while reading some local news, I stumbled upon the one which was giving some hope.
One of the town's most important hospitals has been using artificial intelligence to analyze trillions of data in real-time in order to find similar patrons and determine how every single patient might develop the disease before he/she does. This way they can administrate the correct drugs. With this procedure, the hospital has been able to reduce 50% COVID19 mortality of patients, one of the lowest rates in Europe.
Bioinformatics combines biology, computer science, information engineering, mathematics, and statistics to analyze and interpret biological data. This is a great example on how biology and medicine are using computer science and coding to fight a disease harmfully impacting the whole world.
