Another day, another artwork with dots
Yesterday I came to the conclusion that I really needed some tools to create better dots on these salt dough ornaments. But I have to be creative using whatever I have available at home, as the hobby store didn't sell any of the needed tools. If you're curious what I created yesterday, find the post here. From now on, I will only link the last post.
Today I used another salt dough ornament, acrylic paint and instead of brushes, I only used the cotton swab to make dots. Let's see how that worked out.
The process
I started quite nice lol, I was surprised that I was able to make these tiny dots with a cotton swab. Then a sort of green flower appeared in step 2, and green dots on the edge of the ornament.
As yellow and green are defo not my color when it comes to painting or drawing, I already felt lost and regrets for using a yellow ornament this time. Then I decided to add bright red dots in the middle, which made me think of a flower for some reason. I had no plan here, and that's to be seen in the next step. I had to think how to go from here, as it was not what I imagined in my head. (oops)
Let's be completely honest here, at this point I kept wondering how the heck I went from step 3 to here and how on earth I was going to solve it. But I'm not the person to just throw away the complete thing. I challenge myself to finish what I started. I discovered with the last works, that white is usually a good addition to light up the work a bit.
Step 7 is quite blurry (sorry) at this point I started making tiny flowers by putting dots around the colored ones. Looks so crowdy (especially because the picture is blurry), but let's finish this thing now... I tried to create some lighter green (loving that color!) as I felt I should go back to using more natural colors like green and brown. I normally don't like brown for paintings (read: I never open the brown paint usually) but I have to admit, that I like the way the dots on the edge turned out (the green/brown combination).
Conclusion of this tryout with cotton swabs to make dots, it's ok, but maybe not ideal for the smaller dots when you have to place them in between already crowded areas. Today I got a great tip from @hiddenblade, to try these bottles that you can squeeze with a needle tip to make the dots. I have found them online, so these will be ordered asap. No real hurry anyway, as long as I still have these old packages with paint as it's a pain to get paint out of them. When I try out the squeeze bottles with needles, I will fill them with paint from a tube to save myself a headache. :)
My dot artworks so far
Damn, these black ones really look a lot better if you ask me. The third one is still my favorite and then the second one. I try to create something different each day, to see what I like most, today's project was a bit of a failure, but that happens and is fine. I will try to create something better tomorrow.
