Huge thanks to @anomadsoul for this really mind blowing https://peakd.com/hive-174578/@anomadsoul/hive-challenge-my-quarantine-goals-and-challenges. Really got me reviewing my goals all over again.
In the book THE ALCHEMIST by Paolo Coelho, the boy, Santiago understood > “the language that doesn’t depend on words.”
This language is spoken by all living, and sometimes non-living things. This language is understood by both humans and sheep alike. It is the language that fuses cultures, different tongues and traditions together. The language of a common goal.
You see, we all currently speak the same language. We all have the same problem so our language has been joined to, although a few similar words, help solve the same problems.
This is the time we realize that slacking on ourselves is not a problem reliant on a single race or continent. This is when we realize that around the world all we have are the disciplined and the undisciplined.
As a Nigerian living in Nigeria, the story is different for us. We don’t have a choice other than discipline. The world from this end is not a favorable place to be. Your Government does not give a rats’ ass about your existence or death. This is not a prophecy, it is what it is.
What does this mean for us?
This is not a time to waste data on Tik-Tok or Instagram or other social media platforms meant for boredom alleviation. This is not a time to pretend like you’re busy and damn when the internet advises you to gain a new skill or improve on your skill. This is the time to ask yourself questions and find bloody answers.
Nigeria does not love you. Nigeria has no plans to help you when you become destitute. There is no aid for the unemployed or the jobless. Understand this, YOU WILL DIE! If you do not plan for yourself.
So, as a Nigerian living in Nigeria, now is the time to work on you and on the post-corona era that will soon be upon us.
MY GOALS FOR THE SEASON
Adjusting your goals for a season is possible. If your goals are not adjustable, then you obviously are not planning with enough alphabets in mind.
Here is a list of my Rona lockdown goals:
Weight control: Drop from 60 kg to 55 kg. Haven observed my daily routine I decided to have an intensive 20 minutes workout session by 2 am. Let’s face it, our sleeping schedules have changed with these extra free hours. While everyone streams irrelevant information by 2 am, I will be working on my body goals. With the pace at which I lose weight, I see myself reaching my goal in 3 weeks or a month.
Writing: A minimum of 2 hours daily on writing and editing. A good written piece is 30% writing and 70% editing. I spend approximately 3 hours writing and editing a single piece. This has no particular time slot in the day. It comes from inspiration and the right words.
Reading: 4 books monthly. I have achieved much success with this goal. So far I have completed 10 books this year. April happens to be my review month. I will be rereading some of the best books I have read over time. My current companion is THE ALCHEMIST BY PAULO COELHO. I highly recommend this book for everyone.
Global recognition: Apply for as many international and national opportunities as I can lay my hands on. I have been on this for a while now. You win some, and you lose some. But the experiences are always different.
International relationships: Make friend from different countries and continents. Almost feels impossible to achieve right now. But I still do what I can.
Social media creator: Have a presence on social media as a creator, not a consumer. I have slacked on this one for a while. But I believe one quality piece daily, no matter how short, will go a long way.
These goals were already on my list of 2020 goals, but as life got in the way, they took the back bench while other goals were being chased.
Now, haven reviewed my goals again, I realized that my other pursuits have to take the back bench while I work on these ones.
My goals for this year were quite casual, but necessary.
The person I will become haven achieved these goals will be mentally set to pursue my other life passions. It is a process. I’m taking myself one sweet step at a time.
When all this is over, I will be a lot happier and settled within, to go after what sets my soul on fire without.
A great writer once said;
A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.
Another said;
Walk or crawl, just keep moving.
I intend on doing just that.
