We are getting busy day by day. We all love to be more productive and achieve more. And to do so, multitasking is a common method. Many of us think that multitasking makes us more productive. It's true that it helps us finish tasks quickly but about 'productivity' I have doubt.
Studies show that we actually get less productive when we multitask. Also, it increases our stress level, burns out more energy, and makes us more occupied. So, we first have to get out of this idea that multitasking is a 'problem solver' and a solution for increasing productivity.
Then what should we do?
I have to approve that we need to multitask many times and sometimes we also have no other choices. But I would say if we make a plan for our 'tasks' we can have more control over our actions. And to do so, we have to learn to 'prioritize' tasks. If we can do so we don't have to take care of everything at once but gradually one after another and what matters most.
Moreover, I would say we can multitask on 'less complicated work'. Like cooking and doing dishes at the same time or together. But when it comes to anything complicated like 'making a huge decision about an office project' then we must not multitask and only focus on the important one.
This is not that tough, you know, to make this priority. We just have to realize what's helping us and what not and have to make the decision as per. So it's our choice what we need to do and how. If you think multitasking can help you, go for it. But if it's not helping then don't hesitate and feel bad to focus on a single task.
