As a dog owner I guess I am someone that walks around more than the average person. Sure, there are tons of days where doggo just needs to walk 'his lap' to do some business and there will be no more additional steps heading in there.
But especially when it is not raining (the animal as well as myself really are not that fond of walking in the rain) and nature has come alive again, the time to explore a bit is there and it makes the walks a lot more fun. Apart from that, it feels super peaceful and is the perfect thing to get the head empty again.
Now one of my favourite walks is roaming around the banks of this little creek. It is just quiet and no one is around. But also doggo has the option to jump in and out of the water when he wants to to cool off for a little bit. Especially when the days are getting a lot warmer now and Bernese Mountaindogs and heat are not really the best of combinations this is a really good option to just have the water as option to jump on in for him, even if the water level is low.
Why not always walk there then if it is so nice?
Well if the hike is so super chill, why am I not always walking there? Well, goof question actually because nice things need to be exploited more right?
This little path specifically has some issues to it in when you want to walk here. As in...it is more than often not accessable at all.
As you can see here already on the path it is starting to become overgrown. Now here this is with reed of thatch at the moment, but most of the path will be overgrown with nettle in about a week as that stuff expands really fast.
'So why not walk there earlier in the season then when there is no nettle as yet?' Yeah, that is also a valid reasoning but the reality is that during the winter time this path is just too full of water and mud to walk here. The soil is more clay and it stays super moisty for super long.
That also means walking here is like a miniature form of quick sand and that is no bueno since you are always by yourself over there.
Window of oppertunity
So too moist in the winter time and too much nettle in the summer time. That means the window of oppertunity to be able to walk here is right about now and it will last for about a week!
And it is such a bummer as it is so chill and there are so many things to see. The herons dip down in here to snag some little fishies. Often you will also see duck families with their little ducklings learning how to swim. But also the nature stuff here is super cool
What about the produce from these poplar trees coming down as like a white summer snow. You can see this stuff flying around all day, but I had no idea where it came from until I saw this nest of cotton on the floor by a fallen tree.
This is the reproduce in the spring time from it.
Or what about the ever expanding reed or thatch on the banks of the water even making the dog disappear from my sight. More than often I had to listen to the sounds of splashing water versus really being able to see where to animal actually was.
I just really like this little secret route to follow especially since it is only accessable such a brief amount of time of the year. It feels like doggo and I just have a little secret about roaming here.
