Lugares increíbles en el mundo si los hay y definitivamente el Salar de Uyuni fue uno de ellos. Es muy increíble pensar en cómo se acomodó todo para mí para que pudiera conocer este lugar genial, pero me alegró que así haya sido. Mientras estuvimos de visita por esta zona de Bolivia, queríamos aprovechar al máximo nuestra estadía, recorriendo la mayor cantidad de lugares dentro de este inmeso desierto blanco de más de 10 kilómentros cuadrados. Una de las cosas "que hay que hacer" cuando estas de paso por aquí es sacarte las famosas fotos espejadas con el agua del salar, pero aunque lo intentamos, fallamos por lejos 😂.
To get the full experience, once Guest M and I arrived in Uyuni, we went to spend the day at the salt flat and also the night because we camped. Being in that incredible place for a whole day was one of the best experiences, as we had the opportunity to see a beautiful sunset and the sunrise as well. The night camping was not exactly the best because I was quite cold, but it was still worth it to be able to see the most starry sky of all ❤️.
Para obtener la experiencia completa, una vez que Huésped M y yo llegamos a Uyuni, fuimos a pasar el día en el salar y también la noche porque acampamos. Estar en ese lugar increíble por todo un día completo fue una de las mejores experiencias, ya que tuvimos la oportunidad de ver un atardecer hermoso y el amanecer también. La noche de camping no fue precisamente la mejor porque pasé bastante frío, pero igual valió la pena el poder haber visto el cielo más estrellado de todos ❤️.
The next day, after breakfast, we continued our journey through the salt flat to other interesting points. The day before we had visited the famous Dakar sculpture, the flag square, the salt hotel and also the sculptures along the way. Another thing we had yet to see was the flooded part of the salt flat, where at midday you could supposedly take some incredible photos taking advantage of the reflections. This place was not marked on the map, but we asked for directions to get there 😃.
Al día siguiente, después de nuestro desayuno, continuamos nuestro camino recorriendo el salar hasta otros de sus puntos interesantes. El día anterior habíamos visitado la famosa escultura del Dákar, la plaza de las banderas, el hotel de sal y también las esculturas en el camino. Otra cosa que nos faltaba conocer era la parte inundada del salar, en donde con la hora del mediodía supuestamente se podían tomar unas fotos increíbles aprovechando los reflejos. Este lugar no estaba marcado en el mapa, pero pedimos orientación para poder llegar hasta ahi 😃.
However, the local guides had told us that we probably wouldn't find enough water to have this effect on the landscape. This accumulated water in the salt flat comes from the rainy season, which started in November and our trip was in September. However, we wanted to go closer to see if we had any luck, but no. Instead, we found a road that was barely wet, but creaked when the car passed by, so we left it parked and walked around the place 😃.
Sin embargo, los guías locales nos había dicho que lo probable era que no encontremos agua suficiente para que este efecto se genere en el paisaje. Esta agua acumulada en el salar proviene de las temporadas de lluvias, las cuales empezaban en Noviembre y nuestro paseo fue en Septiembre. Sin embargo, quisimos acercanos a ver si teníamos algo de suerte, pero no. En su lugar, encontramos un camino apenas mojado, pero que crujía cuando el auto pasaba, así que lo dejamos estacionado y recorrimos el lugar a pie 😃.
Of course the guides were right and we didn't find much water in the place they told us about. There was a bit of a reflection, but not as incredible as we expected. We took advantage of the opportunity to walk a bit on that ground, although we were afraid because with each step you sank deeper into the water, while at the same time you heard a creaking sound under your feet. This amused me but also scared me, since on our first day we had seen that there are wells where the water comes out from below. Luckily, no one drowned during this walk 😂.
Por supeusto que los guías tenían razón y no encontramos mucha agua en el lugar que nos dijeron. Se veía un poco de reflejo, pero no tan increíble como el que esperábamos. Igualmente aprovechamos para caminar un poco en ese suelo, aunque con miedo porque con cada pisada te hundías cada vez más en el agua, al mismo tiempo que escuchabas un crujido bajo tus pies. A mí esto me divertía pero también me asustaba, ya que en nuestro primer día habíamos visto que existen pozos en donde el agua sale desde abajo. Por suerte, no hubo ningún ahogado durante este paseo 😂.

In addition to being used for tourism, this salt flat is also commercially exploited for the extraction of salt for industrial consumption. During my visit to the Salar del Gualicho, in Río Negro, Argentina, I learned that the main consumption of salt is by the textile and tanning industries, followed by the chemical industry and, to a lesser extent, the food industry. In this part of the salt flat we were able to see tables and chairs made of salt and several mountains of salt, which we later learned are left there so that the moisture dries out and they can transport it more easily 😃.
Además de usarse a nivel turístico, este salar se explota comercialmente para la extracción de sal con destino a consumo industrial. En mi visita al Salar del Gualicho, en Río Negro, Argentina, aprendí que el principal consumo de sal lo tiene la industria textil y la de curtiembre, seguido por la industria química y en menor medida, la industria alimenticia. En esta parte del salar pudimos ver mesas y sillas de sal y varias montañas de sal, las cuales después aprendimos que las dejan así para que se seque la humedad y puedan transportarla más fácilmente 😃.
Despite not being able to get the beautiful mirror photos to show off on my social media, I loved seeing the Salar de Uyuni. Having crossed the border into Argentina made me happy and getting there was much more than I expected. Nature is so incredible that it will never cease to amaze me. The world is full of curious places and I hope to see a few more ❤️.
A pesar de no haber logrado obtener las hermosas fotos espejadas para alardear en mis redes, me encantó conocer el Salar de Uyuni. Con haber cruzado la frontera de Argentina yo estaba feliz y haber llegado hasta ahí era mucho más de lo que yo esperaba. La naturaleza es tan increíble que nunca va a dejar de sorprenderme. El mundo está lleno de lugares curiosos y espero poder ver unos cuantos más ❤️.
