Quantum dots are nanometric crystals made of semiconductor materials which, taking into account that a nanometer is one millionth of a millimeter, can give you an idea of the size they are.
These quantum dots pass between electrons and generate electrical current when exposed to solar energy in a solar cell device.
This invention is not only 25% more efficient than current technology in converting solar energy into electricity, but it can also behave as a flexible and printable 'skin'.
This has enormous potential, not only to make 'tinted' windows that would make solar panels, but as a transparent cover that could power from mobile devices to cars.
And who knows if in the near future we can do without the batteries of all the mobile devices and gadgets that we usually use.
