The human brain is just a beautiful work of properly organized calculating system or should I call it a machine which is built with several billions of neurons serving as a medium to transmit information in the brains, lots of synapses, working together with other part of the brain to keep the brain active and always performing. The brain, having one quintillion floating-point operations per second shows how fast the brain can calculate. The brain can do as much as 1 billion calculations/seconds making it a very fast machine. In other to achieve this with a computer, it will need a supercomputer with 1.6pentabyte of memory, 1.5 million processors and 4.68 years to simulate 1 day of the brain activity.
The left part of the human brain is used for logic thinking, analytical thinking, language, sequencing and so on, the right part of the brain is responsible for imagination, creativity, pattern recognition, intuition, rhythm, holistic thinking, and art and so on. Simulating the brain in computers have been a very big project for scientist and in doing this, scientist will take the best part of the human brain which is its speed and quick response (not disturbed by thoughts from the mind) and paring it with the current computing architecture. Scientist bringing in Neuromorphic computing where the human brain do the right part function of the brain while the computer do the left part function of the brain which is actually the foundation of AI and robotic machines.
Neuromorphic computers will be able to learn and reason from the input of humans, and this is possible with machine learning, bringing the human brain function and computing power together. This is possible with the creation of nodes which are interconnected with neurons and weight are assigned to them after which data are fed to them.
With Neuromorphic computing, computer are starting to emulate consciousness and machines which is called cognitive computing. Neutomorphic computing will be able to work in parallel just like the brain, this computers will be able to work at its fastest speed as it is built like the human brain, and the structure of the network will make the computing scalable. Currently, there are two players in the Neuromorphic computing race and they are IBM Truenorth, and Intel Loihi.
