Well, official word has come down that the one concert that was still on for this summer has finally been pushed until next year. While many of our cancelled concerts were rescheduled until 2022, the Motley Crue, Def Leppard, Poison, Joan Jett show was moved to 2021.
As the date in July has gotten closer and closer my wife and I have been waiting for the news. Although things are starting to open up in Michigan more, it isn't that way across the US. I think it would have been a nightmare for them to navigate the different rules and restrictions throughout the entire US. It makes the most sense for them to move it to 2022.
I am actually okay with that. It should allow us to get the full concert experience that we are used to and it frees up our summer a little more.
With that out of the way, let's get down to the music!
People that know me know that I am a fan of the Yacht Rock genre of music. It is that smooth 70's/80's stuff that came from the likes of Steely Dan, Christopher Cross, The Doobie Brothers, etc.
For so many years I thought that my listening was going to be relegated to the handful of songs that are out there which I have heard over and over and over again. That is until earlier this week I learned about a couple of different new bands.
New to me, but they have actually been around for quite some time if not a decade or two.
The first was AM Waves which you hear above. They definitely have that yacht rock kind of style. Their stuff tends to lean a little bit more towards funk or something similar, but I still really dig it. I added them to my playlists immediately.
Especially in the chorus on this song there are definitely some Steely Dan influences. Give it a listen and I am sure you will hear what I am saying.
If you took Steely Dan, and you mixed them with a little bit of Chicago ala the Peter Cetera years, you might get something that sounds a lot like "State Cows". I am not really sure how they came across my feed, I think I was listening to something else and after that finished Spotify guessed I would like to hear State Cows.
That seems to happen a lot doesn't it?
Just like always, Spotify totally nailed it. Who knew there were modern bands that were brining back that same sound from the 70's and 80's. I guess it is happening in country music with bands like Midland and a couple others, so why wouldn't it happen in the adult contemporary genre.
If you are a fan of Chicago or Steely Dan, you should totally check out State Cows. My mind is honestly completely blown right now!
Finally, speaking of country, I am brining you this gem by Canaan Smith. This isn't actually the first time I have ever heard of him, he has one or two songs that made it to popular radio, but I never really paid much attention to it. Then once again, Spotify hit the jackpot and re-introduced me to him.
From what I can see, he doesn't have a ton of albums, two to be exact, but his latest from 2021 is pretty fantastic as far as I am concerned. Of course if you aren't a fan of country music you are probably going to want to skip this one, but if you like it then you will probably love it.
He definitely has a little bit of an Eric Church sound, but there is also something there that makes him very unique.
So that is what I have been listening to this week. If you have been listening to something awesome let me know about it in the comments. Better yet, write your own post and use the #weeklyspins tag!
