You may have noticed I dropped the Bozzlife: from the title this week. It is something new I am trying. I started it to try and build my "brand", but that this point I kind of feel like my followers are not going anywhere. Plus it kind of ruins the flow of some of my post titles.
If you life in the US or you are a football fan, many of you are probably still coming down from the excitement of the Super Bowl last weekend. Although it wasn't quite the even matchup that many people were expecting, it still offered some good fun entertainment.
Besides the game itself, two of the biggest draws to the Super Bowl are the commercials and the half time show. Not necessarily in that order. It probably goes more like commercials, game, halftime show if I had to guess.
Anyway, after this years show by The Weekend, I found myself combing through several of his albums through the week. That's when I decided for this #weeklyspins/#musicmonday I would be covering some of the past Super Bowl halftime shows.
As is typically the case, the halftime show draws a huge amount of criticism. I guess anything sports related brings that out in people. Arm chair quarterbacks/producers talking about how they would have done things differently or just how bad the act sucked.
In fact, my Facebook feed was filled with comments about how horrible they thought the show was. People who didn't even know who The Weekend was. Trust me, if you are bashing on something and you openly admit you have no knowledge about the subject or person, I am going to discount pretty much everything you say from that point on.
Anyway, I thought it was a decent show and I was really impressed to hear that he spent a couple million of his own money for most of the production.
I think The Weekend is a very talented singer and his songs are catchy and have a good groove. It isn't uncommon to hear me singing "I can't feel my face" in the kitchen on the weekend with my wife. There may or may not be alcohol involved. That's for you to surmise.
I remember this one pretty clearly even though it was about 9 years ago. It was a bit nuts and I would actually expect nothing less from Madonna. There were bits that were not that great, I am okay admitting that.
Actually one of my favorite parts is the song "Give me all your love" and the special appearance by Nicki Minaj and some other rapper. It happens at about the six minute mark.
I have always been a big Madonna fan. There are a lot of people who don't really care for her, but I think she is definitely a talented singer. She has also done a good job of marketing herself over the years. I mean who doesn't know who Madonna is. That speaks volumes right there.
Plus, I am a really big Nicki Minaj fan, so I was sold right there.
Finally, she finished the set with "Like a prayer" which is one of my favorite songs of hers, so I was fairly happy with this show.
I know there were so many to choose from and I didn't even go back over ten years into some of the shows that were more about the music and less about the production.
Staying in the same vein of Madonna, I am going to go with Lady Gaga. I think they are both super talented and very misunderstood artists. They both do a really good job of selling their brand and staying relevant. You can't deny that.
I think a lot of people were really brought to bare with their misgivings about her after she did the remake of "A Star is Born". She can sing, that's all there is to it. Don't believe me? Check out her duet album with Tony Bennett.
I hope you have enjoyed this walk down memory lane with some Super Bowl Halftime shows. What was your favorite halftime show? Leave me a comment and let me know.
If you have been listening to something really awesome this week you can leave that in the comments too. Better yet, write your own post and use the #weeklyspins tag!
