Cold, lovely and still dark, it was 5:45 am when we left the house this morning to do a lap around our local parkrun course.
We've been on the set up team since the event began a couple of years ago and in summer it's easy. In Dec/Jan, the sun is high in the sky by the time we need to head into the bush.
But in the middle of winter, the sun doesn't rise until we've finished set up!
Since it's about one full month since winter solstice, this morning we needed the head torches until about 6:20 am.
So we got to have about 15 minutes of walking and jogging with natural light.
The easiest way to carry the head torches after we turned them off was to leave them on our heads.
Especially since we still had signs and a waist pouch (me) & cones and a backpack (him) to carry.
I think we'd picked our layers well. I only needed to unzip my long top and pull up my sleeves at one point when walking up a continuously long uphill. But once we were on the downhill again, I needed to cover up again!
Once we made it to the parkrun start line to drop off the bags, I said goodbye to Brad so he could run parkrun and I walked home (munching on paleo bars as I went).
He was happy doing 10+ km but the set up and walking home, which was 5.85km in total, was enough for me.
Getting better at listening to my body these days and it feels like a much higher priority than picking up every single parkrun.
