Description from Strava:
I should have posted it yesterday, but I have now been on this blockchain for seven whole years.
It started in the aftermath of the Tsu social site being shutdown. I was not really into cryptocurrency at that point apart from playing with some faucets, but fellow Tsu user @the-bitcoin-dood suggested that I check out this new platform called Steemit. I could see that it was offering something different and might be less vulnerable to a parent company giving up. I have been on too many other social sites that died (Tsu, Multiply, Google+ etc). Of course we know that Steemit had its own issues, but I had a lot of fun with the community, including attending two Steemfests. When the time came to fork off I got my Steemit account censored for criticising the new owner. I was able to extract my funds that were used to buy $HIVE. I did look at Blurt, but it did not look promising compared to Hive and so the funds from there got converted too. Those helped me to get to 100k HP recently.
I have stuck with this thing through all the highs and lows. I have seen token prices of 7c and several dollars. I did sell some to pay for trips and treats, but the long power down means you cannot react to short-term pumps. Whether it is all worth it depends on how you value your time and if you can play the long game. I know some are desperate for extra funds and the current price may make it less attractive, but if you are having fun with the community then I see it as a better option than the corporate platforms. The photo is from our pub music session last night where there were five Hivers present. I have recruited quite a few people and some are still active.
You will have seen that about half my posts are from my runs. That is via @strava2hive these days which makes it simple to create a post just by entering some text on the Strava activity.
Today's run was not too bad. Drinking beer at the pub does not help, but I got up and the weather was kind to me. It has been quite wet at times, but was nice out this morning. I did the flat route out to Stotfold just keeping a fairly steady pace. I am happy enough if I average 6min/km. I saw a few other runners plus the dog walkers and then there was the usual queue of people waiting at the surgery to see a doctor.
I did some exercises at the outdoor gym on the way back and ran across the field to the football club, avoiding the guy driving a lawnmower around. I took the log way around Arlesey to stretch it out a bit. I confirmed that the path around Chase Hill is all open again, so I can stay away from the road a little more.
I would encourage anyone with any interest in cryptocurrency or alternatives to the corporate social platforms to look at Hive. As well as the potential to earn you have more freedoms and the ecosystem keeps growing with more games and other apps all the time. Let me know if you want an account. It costs you nothing and I do not directly benefit if you join.
Run free!
