In the era of silent generations, music lived, and that's to tell us the power of music in our world. Despite the war and pain, music still found its place, and this is because music is needed to thrive in this era.
It is the tune soldiers need to sing or hum as they march to war as the thumping of their feet is also musical… or as they create fires to warm themselves. When soldiers win the war, music is what they rely on as they also use music to say goodbye to their slain comrades.
The people who were taken as slaves used music to pass their pain to their creator and pay respect to those who died during the war.
The baby boomers, who are the generation between the end of World War 2 and mid 1960's because of their large number, also brought music to the world. We all know a baby whose voice isn't heard when or after their mother pushes him or her out cannot be claimed to be normal.
This is because their voice is musical to the ears of their mother, midwife, and the whole world at large. It is at this moment that celebration can be heard as a whistle, feet tapping, and chest banging takes over.
Music is everywhere. In the western and
African world music strived, and being an African Nigerian personnel, there are musicians who made their way in the three main tribes in Nigeria; Yoruba, Igbo, and Hausa.
These three ethnic groups have music that comes from every individual who lived at this time as some aspired and made a face in the music industry.
Speaking mainly on the Yorubas music today, they have Apala, Juju, Fuji, and others, who reigned both in the silent generation and baby boomers era.
I love listening to these songs as they bring back good ol' memories. They gladden every part of me whenever I hear them.
We have Haruna Ishola Adebayo, born in the year 1919 and died in the year 1983. He is known as the father of Apala music. He made Apala music so good that you can't just stand still while he sings. And I love his music more.
Just the beat alone is life with the use of talking drums and all other ancient instruments.
Apart from Haruna, there are other lots of Apala singers whose music will make you feel this world is worth living every day. And these music go with the traditional attire known as Aso Oke for women. The dance step is superb as the women whine their waists to the beat of the music.
Moving on from Apala, let's see what Juju holds.
Juju, which is in the form of panegyric and commemorative music, has Chief Sunday, Adeniyi Adegeye, known as King Sunny Ade, making this music loving to listen to. Though there are lots of other Juju singers who made the music world boom, let's listen to one of Sunny Ade's music beats.
You can see how crazy the beat is and how the dancers follow the beat like it is part of them.
Now, we have Fuji as the last one to go, and I am sure you will love the beat and music just as you have loved others.
Chief Sikiru Ayinde Barrister, who is known to be the originator of Fuji music, brought life to Fuji music. He is also known as Barry Wonder. And I have to admit the music is nice to listen to and has the ancient vibes added that make your heart beat in a crazy way.
Apart from Barrister, there are other Fuji singers who will make you love Fuji more.
