When it comes to the African countries, there has been a strong debate about how the country's governance operates.
Many say it's by leadership, which have delayed the development of so many countries. And some argue that this autocracy is a strong one, where most African countries dwell in a centralized ruling. I always get the frustration, but I don't agree with this adoption of autocracy.
Let me share why I believe democracy. The messiness and no guarantee of the way forward is still a better way to go. The idea of autocracy is speed, a single leader can make quick decisions that might be impactful, like beating the world, enforcing law, and cutting corruption drastically. Without debates or any alteration.
But here is the main factor. It often comes at the cost of freedom. I've read some stories of the communities where one person's vision silenced everyone. One person's idea was seen as superior to other ones.
My friend once shared how a country, the strict regime of the leader in a country,
pushed through a city project. And people were rendered homeless with. That is not progress. That is control. Democracy might be slower, and we have not seen the greater impact yet in most of our country. In Africa. But at least it allows people to still have a voice.
Although what we see now is democracy and our government are still autocracy. But the little one we can see, it builds a system where everyone needs to be heard. Not just the leaders. But the citizens. I believe development which is when people are just free to share their ideas. Their vision.
I want to talk about it. Some of the African brightest innovations. Like the internet banking, The solar panel innovation business. It came from ordinary folks. And this has really impacted the whole country at large.
Democracy encourages people to just be creative. By giving people a say in their future. And the future of people around them also. Autocracy might deliver a quicker result.nOr fast response. But it also contains a risk. Which creates systems that might collapse when the leader leaves. Or the leader is corrupt.
A corrupt leader might turn the country into a corrupt country. So the way forward isn't just trying to have a perfect democracy overnight in a country. It's about trying to grow what we already have.
Make the election to be transparent. Let the election decider be accountable. And communities should be part of choosing their leader. So that they are choosing better leaders that can work for everyone. It's not easy but it's still worth it.
Let's just believe in this system. That uplifts everyone. Not just one. What do you think about this debate?
