Did you know even in my final year second semester I was still offering up to 5 courses all three credit load except my final year project which was 6 credit load, meanwhile some other departments were just offering at most three course that's plus final year project
.....right from my first year upto my third year first semester we were still borrowing courses from unrelated departments that has nothing to do with us in anyway, for instances in my first year I did a course called argument and evidence borrowed from the departments of philosophy, what has that got to do with someone doing banking and finance, in my year two I did a course called company law about two courses from the faculty of law, how has all these got to do with me, plus a bunch of other useless courses borrowed from left right and centre.
Now I am a finance student from the faculty of business Administration instead of my department right from my first year to equip my learning program with finance courses in relation to business and the banking industry no they they'd filled our semester with courses that are not necessary to us, and all three credit load...
Now guess what?
I started doing my own business and finance courses in my third year second semester meanwhile I'm on a-four-year-program so what time have I got to cover all courses on banking and finance?... so you see they keep pushing us with courses that we don't need till the very last semester we were still doing 5courses while other departments were on atleast 2 or almost 3 courses, so we were literally struggling to breath through school and this for a normal student oo, if anyone had a carryover in say second year automatically that's like an extra year already....
So you see due to these at the end of the day our universities will end up producing half-baked graduates and these is on going in all higher institutions in the country, this is really am error that must be fixed, the so-called unnecessary borrowed courses should stop, why not right from first year each department should vest in teaching students courses that are relevant in their field of study, i know of many of my course mate now if you ask them a thing about course they did in school its a no go area for them, most of us already loose interest right from the beginning but if you're taught courses that has to do with your area atleast the interest will be high and good...
This is why you see a lot of graduate out there after uni are just miserable not because they don't have brains but because the system that produce them started on a wrong foundation, if you ask me why was I doing law courses or philosophy courses I don't know for what purposes?...
From my second year i did a course on entrepreneurship that course took the whole of first and second semester, now again in my final year they brought a course called entrepreneurial development, now there is literally no difference between what I was doing in my second year and what I was doing in my final year on entrepreneurship it's all the same thing, I wish I can change this policies, I wish some one can go back to the drawing board and change how the curriculum of these higher institutions are structured....
Now this is not to say of the entire educational system from preschool you realise that the subjects they are teaching these children right from preschool to juniors high and senior high is in no way adding up to giving them direction or a clue to what their future should be, its more or less like just fulfilling all righteous but the main intent of education is buried and forgotten, how about preschool starts offering subjects like career conselling, career path some rich curriculum that will spur up the active minds of these young people to want to venture into a particular career in life and to really understand why they are doing so
