Like they say, growth isn’t loud, it doesn’t happen overnight, but it’s the subtle changes you begin to notice over time. Growth is not a Ponzi scheme. You don’t sit back and do nothing, you make an intentional effort to see the change you want.
We grow in different spheres of our lives, some we notice, some we don’t, but trust me you certainly are not the person from some months or years ago, and the satisfaction that comes with realizing this is priceless.
The prompt of this week is about growth and I’ll be sharing a little story to this effect.
A few months ago, not in my wildest dreams would I have believed that I could write for seven consecutive days. Before now, I saw writing every day as something so big, something you need so much energy for, and I’d gush over people who wrote every day, back then I saw them differently.
Then for people who wrote for 365 days, I had absolutely nothing to say to them. Whenever I saw this set of people bagging the weekly, monthly, and yearly badges, I always applauded them as I never saw myself bagging these badges.
I wrote only three times a week and if I wanted to stretch it I’d make it four or max five, and best believe there was enough gap between the days😂 Whenever I did that, I applauded myself and felt on top of the world because I knew how hard it was for me to pull through.
Fast forward to today, this young lady has a couple of weekly badges and is on her way to get a monthly badge, now ladies and gentlemen that’s GROWTH! I’m doing the “impossible” in my books and I’m stretching it by writing monthly.
Did I develop this super power overnight? Hell no! It took time. I slipped, gave up, I started all over again, and I’m still growing. That which I dreaded now looks like ABC.
Before now, I could use two to three days to make one post. I’d start it halfway and come back to it whenever I had a new idea, but right now, it’s a different story. Writing every day did not strip me of my originality, as I’d rather not write than put up a shit post here.
Realizing that I have grown all around here is amazing. I have not only grown by showing up here consistently but my writing skills has improved tremendously. I went through my introduction post a few weeks ago and I laughed, there is a great difference between the writing of Ibbtammy in 2022 and the writing of Ibbtammy in 2025 and the following years to come.
We become too hard on ourselves that we do not notice the changes in our lives and give ourselves enough credit.
Like I stated earlier, growth isn’t loud but silent, subtle, and ever present, changing our lives in more ways that we can ever think of.
What about you reading this post, what does growth mean to you? At what point did you realize that you’ve grown? I’ll love to read your thoughts in the comment section.
