Hello everyone!
Just this afternoon, when I saw this prompt and was about to draft, a neighbor, a lady, walked up to me to ask if I had airtime on my phone so she could use it to call her husband and confirm his whereabouts.
"Hmmmmm, wait, let me check because I don’t think I have airtime," I replied and picked up my phone to check my account balance. While doing so, she asked if I had not been making calls for me to think so deeply and still check before knowing if I had airtime or not.
"Hahaha! I don’t usually make calls like that. My major means of communication is via chats, and anytime it warrants a call, I do it via voice call on a social media app" I replied while handing her the phone after checking to see that I had just N22 call credit balance.
You see that N22 balance? It can actually last more than a month. The only reason I keep airtime on my phone is to return emergency calls, especially from contacts I don’t have saved. If not, all my talk and chats are based on social media, with WhatsApp topping the list.

But hey, I make calls too!
I love making calls and enjoy it a lot, especially when I know I’m not spending much on it and when I’m talking with someone I’m very fond of.
What do I mean by that?
Each time I buy a large volume of airtime to use for a data subscription—which happens once a month—I get gifted a large call credit bonus. That’s when I enjoy making calls unlimitedly because I know I’m not spending on it. It’s a bonus! Just like my current stage right now, I have bonus airtime, a very large amount, and I have been making calls unlimitedly, especially using the opportunity to ‘make peace’ with friends and relatives I haven’t been in touch with for a very long time—those who have concluded that I’m keeping away from them.
Also, anytime this call moment comes, I enjoy it a lot—bonding and strengthening relationships with loved ones, especially with my fiancé (in the making. Lol). I have some friends here on the Blockchain who know whenever I have unlimited airtime. They just know! Whenever I call and start getting talkative, they instantly realize that I have unlimited airtime, and the fun just continues like that.
Apart from normal calls, I also make voice calls on social media a lot, but not with everyone. I do it with people I’m fond of, and anything below that fondness should be strictly based on chats.
Back to where I started this article—you would never see me recharge my phone just to make a call, I mean a casual “Hey, how are you?” call. No, let’s have that conversation via chat. Even my parents know me for that. Sometimes, they beg one of my siblings to connect them on a video call with me if they just want a fun talk. However, when they have something serious to discuss, they call me directly, and I dare not ignore it. Lol😂
In summary, I’m both a call and a chat person. It all depends on the person and the situation at that moment.
