Hello everyone,
Honestly, this topic got me smiling because I have been waiting to say my mind for long i remember sitting in some classes during my secondary school and university days looking at the board and thinking, what is the use of this course in real life don’t get me wrong i am not saying school is not important, but I feel some of the courses are just too much and not necessary.
Let’s start from primary school at that level most of the subjects are okay because they help children build a strong foundation English, Mathematics, Social Studies, and maybe Basic Science these are all fine but once you start climbing higher that is where the load begins to increase unnecessarily.
In secondary school, I still can’t understand why I had to study Agricultural Science, Home Economics, Civic Education, and all the rest at the same time Some of them could have been merged into one. For example, Home Economics and Food & Nutrition aren’t they basically teaching the same thing even in Agricultural Science, I remember spending time learning parts of a grasshopper, meanwhile I had no interest in becoming a farmer or biologist.
Then university. Oh my goodness the number of courses we were forced to take just to graduate some of them don’t even relate to our department I studied a course in the humanities, and yet they gave me Use of Library and Peace and Conflict Resolution as compulsory i am not saying peace is not important o, but why should I be writing exams on something that won’t add to my main career.
I believe that not all the courses are necessary. Education is good, yes, but let us be real —some courses are just filling up space Instead of wasting time on irrelevant subjects, why not introduce skills that students can actually use after school, Things like digital marketing, coding, financial literacy, content creation, freelancing, and basic entrepreneurship those are the things people need now.
I am also of the opinion that students should have more power to choose what they want to study from an early stage for example if someone knows he or she wants to be an artist why force the person to study Chemistry It doesn’t make sense.
Some people might say It is to make you a complete learner but in the end, what matters is how useful that knowledge will be in real life you finish school graduate and end up learning a totally different skill to survive.
So, in conclusion, I feel that schools should review their curriculum keep the important courses, remove the ones that are outdated or not useful and bring in modern, practical subjects let students learn things that will prepare them for today’s world, not just to pass exams.
That is my honest take what do you think?
