Growing up, I’ve always believed that our lives are not just meant for ourselves, but for the people around us too. I may not have everything I desire yet, but I know the little I do can bring peace, joy, or comfort to someone else, and for me, that’s more than enough. One of the ways I contribute positively to society is simply by being kind, intentional, and showing genuine concern for others, especially the less privileged.
Back in school, I was an activist, not because I wanted to make noise or be in the spotlight, but because I couldn't stand injustice or silence in the face of pain. I would always speak up when something wasn’t right, whether it was about students' welfare or the mistreatment of someone who couldn’t defend themselves. I naturally leaned toward fighting for the voiceless. I didn’t have to be called a leader to lead; all I needed was a reason, and I always had one.
Another part of me that I’m deeply proud of is my love for giving. I don’t need to have plenty before I share. Even when it’s just little, I believe there’s someone out there who has less. My heart beats for people who are handicapped or struggling due to circumstances beyond their control. I remember one time when I gave my last cash to a blind man who sat by the roadside under the sun. It wasn’t about the money, but about how he held my hand and said, “Thank you, you have no idea what this means.” That moment reminded me why I do what I do.
What really drives me is the smile I get from people. If I can’t make someone laugh, at least I’ll do everything I can to avoid making them cry. It’s a personal principle I hold on to. I believe everyone is going through something, and if I can be a reason someone feels lighter, then I’ve done something meaningful with my life. This is why I don’t joke with words, I know how powerful they are.
Giving back to society doesn’t always have to come through big foundations or events. Sometimes, it’s the small, quiet things that count the most, checking on a friend who’s been distant, helping a stranger carry their load, speaking encouraging words to someone on the verge of giving up, or just smiling at someone who looks tired. These little things add up and make a real difference.
I may not be perfect, but I try to be intentional with how I treat people. I want to be remembered as someone who spread light, who gave even when it wasn’t convenient, and who stood for others when it mattered. That’s the kind of impact I want to leave behind. That’s how I contribute positively to society, not because I have it all, but because I care enough to try.
