Lessons school never taught me. How I wish I knew this.
Education is one of the greatest inventions of man. Nothing transforms a total man than education. It is the pathway through which the human mind and soul are enlightened. It might be difficult to describe all the advantages of education to man. However, one thing is that education is transformative. It makes life easy and brings comfort to a person. Education is obtained in a place called a school. At school, two categories of people meet, the teachers and the learners or students. The teacher instructs the students or learners in line with the structured academic syllabus. The learners sit to receive what is being taught by their teachers. As this process goes on, transformation happens in the lives of the learners. After a certain years, the learner leaves the school environment to face the world squarely using the tool he was equipped with in school.
Most times, the students in the process of interacting with the real world after school never make use of the things he was taught in the school environment. This is the reason we have so many school leavers roaming around society without a job or a skill. Worst of all is that the school leavers most time end up working for the ones who did not go to school. This is a very sad situation. This is a reflection that the school system is not doing the right thing to prepare people for real-life situations. What is this real-life situation? Real-life situations are those challenges a person faces as a result of living in an environment. For example, unemployment is a real-life situation, skills to solve human problems are a real-life situation, financial management, home management, and others are issues that everyone is bound to face. Oftentimes, our education system does not teach people all of these. That is why most school leavers tend to be useless after school, having only head knowledge that cannot be transformed into problem-solving.
I am a victim of this organised narrative. And every day I questioned myself for spending more than ten years of my life in a formal education setting, which has not transformed into anything. Almost eight years after leaving school, I have not used what I studied for anything. The certificate is as useless as anything. I came to realise that success in life is not tied to school. Many successful people in life have not been to the four walls of school. What makes a person successful is the ability to solve man's problems. It is a wrong mindset that school will make one successful. This is not true.
Having this skill and blending it with education, you become unstoppable in life. Having a skill is as good as being educated. Your skill will give you an edge over another who has been to school alone without any skill.
How I wish I knew this, my life would have been better than this.
