Every day whenever I find some time, I go to the created section on Hive and look for some good articles, I read them and vote them. Apart from my individual voting, I have also been curating with @indiaunited community account. A few days back I did curate some of the posts in the created section and went to bed when I woke up in the morning, I noticed few comments on those posts saying that the posts were just fake and the accounts were fake accounts where someone was trying to farm the #introduceyourself section.
This was really very shocking for me. Only after reading the comments on the posts I curated, I found that the accounts were fake because the users were just spinning the same contents again and again and on multiple accounts to just get some big rewards for their #introduceyourself post. After seeing those caution notes from some of the commentators, I went to verify a few of the posts and I noticed the same writing pattern on multiple similar posts.
I can't imagine people would go to an extent where they create a fake account as the account creation is free here and write a neat and nice introduce yourself to post just for the sake of some good rewards. We the community members find it hard to differentiate between authentic posts and fake posts. Nowadays the scammers or the looters write a very good #introduceyourself post with nice images on it. They might use the same set of images again to create another #introduceyourself post after a few months and nobody would know about it. Some people even copy-paste the same content again or just rewrite the same content or just use an article spinner to escape plagiarism.
Nowadays, my curating pattern has changed a lot. I have stopped #introduceyourself posts unless and until I know the person personally. I still focus my curation on the created section of the chain but I stick to people who are good writers than people who are pretty new with a low reputation. I hardly vote any posts that are from authors that having a reputation below 50. Even if I come across a good #introduceyourself post, I try to verify with sharp eyes before voting them.
I would like to use this article as an opportunity to send a caution note to my fellow Hive friends to curate carefully especially on posts that are under #introduceyourself tag and that are suspicious. It is better to avoid curating such posts if we are not sure about the author. But at the same time, we also have the responsibility to welcome a genuine newcomer. We have to just be very careful while curating but that doesn't mean that we shouldn't curate the new members at all. They deserve good votes if they are really very good. That will only motivate them to stick around the platform.
