Sometimes we wonder why we go the extra mile for some people, but still they never appreciate our effort, but those we did almost nothing or little for that see the value in what we did for them.
I later get to understand how humans are wired... If you give someone water when they don't need it, they might take it and drink it but they won't count it as something special because they do not really need that help when you give it to them, but give a thirsty person water and see how they will appreciate you.
I have a friend who is always there for me whenever I need help, it got to a point that I also want to help her but she does not need my help, so one day we were discussing and I was like, whenever you need my help, ask me because you have always been the one helping me, I am yet to do anything for you and she replied that I have also helped her before, I was confused because I do not think I have done anything for her.
She reminded of how I gave her a recharge card some years ago when she needed it, I was like I don't remember giving you recharge card and I do not even see that as helping you cos it is something I can give to a stranger too, the fact that you have helped me so much after that incident makes me feel so indebted to you that I just want you to come to me oneday and ask me for something big. I won her heart with a recharge card. This is how beautiful and pure the human heart is! You do not need millions to make someone like you; just be genuinely kind.
Some years ago too, I had a best friend that would go out and work as a laborer but immediately he was done, he would call me so we can go and eat, sometime we eat Tuwo shinkafa and some other time, it is bread and egg with hot cup of tea being sold by those malam on the street.... He did this repeatedly for months and I just know I would never be able to repay him for this act of generosity... Like, who would do hard labour and spend the money together with someone else for months. There is a story behind it.

His family packed into the house in front of my parent house, so we were neighbour but we didn't talk until one day we met in the game center and being an extrovert, few weeks of their arrival in the community, he already made some friends and he has also know the champions in the community when it comes to Ps2, he challenged me when I got to the game centre and I accepted, it was loser pay and we played a lot of games which I end up winning more, he got carried away and forgot he did not have enough to pay for the games. The person in charge of the gaming centre seized his footwear, and when I looked into his eyes, I could feel his pain, not to mention his new so-called friends also making a jest of him... betrayal! This is what I dislike most in my life, and that scene just made me pity him, and I paid his debt, and his footwear was released.
On our way home, he told me how bad he felt when they were making jest of him and he did not expect that from them, I let him understand not everyone that talk to you or laugh with you is your friend, that was how we became very close and few months after that was when Things was not going so well with my family and there was nothing much to eat, he knew that because of how close we were and he also realized my bone is weak and body not as strong as his own so I can't do the hard labour he was doing and he didn't mind sharing his money with me and till now I can never forget his act of kindness, he won my loyalty till the end of time.
Do not help people because you want them to pay you back, help people because when you do that, you are also helping yourself, That big smile on their face would make your day!
